Seb, I have been on the NSD/LSD for over 20 years. I can tell you that it saved my life. I spent a long time visiting Doctors and other medical professionals in a number of countries. Eventually i met an open minded Rheummy at Guys hospital in London who told me unfortunately he could only advise more of the same NSAID treatment that was obviously not working and causing me a lot of distress. He then said the magic words "It may be worth you seeking out a doctor Ebringer at the Middlesex Hospital who has had some success treating AS". The rest is history.
