If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I haven't been walking for the last while because of the snow and ice - too worried about slipping over!

lon, its the erie canal.
it goes all the way from albany to buffalo. connects to the hudson in the albany area. were parts that went up into the st lawrence and down into the finger lakes, not sure if that part still survives. was built in the 1800s to transport goods to and from the midwest and NYC and in between via water, allowed for continuous water travel in this way. quite the engineering feat back at the time.
i have no idea where it drains into: the hudson? one of the great lakes? some combination? not sure why they drain it? so that it doesn't freeze and damage the canal bed?
but like you, i had no idea they did this each year, til i saw it. it takes days to weeks to drain down. its interesting to watch it over that span of time.
its a great place to walk and bike. the tow path was designed for mules to walk along and tow boats along the canal. thus its flat, wide, and easy to walk and bike along, especially bike since its so flat.

Sue, Next time I go to REading, I will put the cannel on my list, Wow! Do fish get caught? In the Platte, families go out there once the gate is opened, water receeding and they net fish to take home to eat!!!
Nebraska I can see how it makes such a difference in shipping and in agriculture = irrigation.
Got mor e snow ot move today. hope to be using the 4-wheeler.

I swam 1/2 mile today. Doesn't that sound better than I just couldn't bear to swim my last two laps. Truly that's the difference between 1/2 mile and 1,000 yds. Whoop! Go TEAM!
