If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi I think that I done something really stupid. Last Monday my sister-in law drove me to the hospital to visit my father in her mini van. We were having a rain storm (ended up having over 80 mm rain ) so I was sore and stiff anyway. Of course I had some trouble getting out of the van because my hips didn't want to cooperate. Thinking it was a good idea I figured I would hop out. Big Mistake the pain went up and down I think even my hair stood straight out because if it. Of course I said I was fine. But here it is almost a week later and the pain in my hips is back to normal but it is my back that is really killing me now. It used to just bother me in the lower back but now it is about midway up as well. Could this be a result of the jump or could the AS be on the move? I know that my x-rheumy said that it doesn't move up the spine . I was hoping that it would have eased up by now but it hasen't and I know that the weather isn't helping . It rained again yesterday and still raining today. If it would get rid of the snow fine but all it seems to be doing is making a big mess and making me sore. Thanks Take care everyone valerie

Dear Valerie:
You have strained the support ligaments around your spine, and they can be sore for a very long time. When we 'accordion' our spines--especially as can happen in an auto accident, the ligaments that should snap back like a firm rubber band act more like cold taffy, and don't return to normal position right away.
Heat and rest usually helped me; cold weather was the worst.
I do not understand your "EX:" That AS does not move up the spine(?!!). Impossible to believe that anyone could make such an uninformed statement because that is a principal hallmark of classical AS--bottom-to-top over the years; the march of time with this disease. Unless you are actively doing something to halt AS (DMARDs/NSD/living under special grace), it shall progress, bottom-to-top, and most likely slow-and-stealthy enough for you not to really notice 'till it all acts up at once.
Hope that you get better soon--no more hopping about!
Best Regards, John

Thanks for the info John I was starting to think that it was something that would never ease up. I am using heat but it is getting the chance to rest the back that is giving me problems. If the weather would cooperate than that should help. They are calling for snow again on tuesday not saying how much so that usually means shovelling. But as to the ex -rhumey comment about AS not moving up the spine. I should have been clearer what he actually said was it doesn't travel up the spine if you are a woman only if you are a man. Of course I didn't believe him I just looked at him and said all right. This is one of the reasons I decide to stop seeing him.
But believe me I will not hop out of any more vans or anything else.
Take care Valerie
