I am the reigning Goddess of Snap, Crackle, Pop, LOL! I pop so loudly that my husband can here it. And to even beat that, when I went to the chiropractor years ago, he would tease me about it. He sent people down the hall one day to "listen" when he cracked my neck. He wanted to see how far the noise traveled. They said that they could hear it in the waiting room, LMAO!!!!

As to why we do this.............gosh, I never thought to ask!??!!!!!!

Hi Mike

I creak and crack all over. Fingers, wrists, thumbs, toes, ankles, shoulders, hips, back, knees, neck........ I'm quite attatched to it now
My body does it naturally all the time, but sometimes I really feel the need to stretch my neck or back intensly.

What I dont enjoy, is the feeling in my knees. Ack! When I get up or bend, it feels like a rusty hinge with no 'give'. its a very 'grating/grinding' feeling. Horrible.

Thanks to all for relating your experiences and insight, especially Jo for his informative link. I suppose we all suffer with this to some degree, but lately I feel like my noise meter has been registering pretty high.

I've got an appointment with the rheumy early next week. As usual I'll be taking in a sheet of notes and will get his feedback on the "snap, crackle, pop" phenomenon. Not that they'll look, but I've directed every rheumy and pain control doc I've seen to this web site. One actually said he was familiar with it. It would certainly provide them with a continuing education on AS!

Cheers,

Mike

HI,
Funny you asked. I am having the same thing, so I asked my rhuemy. He said it was normal with AS as long as it doesnt hurt. Yes, but doesn't that mean the bone are wearing faster or something. He didn't know what to say.
When I turn my neck I get that sound. It sounds horrible. Not adding to the ringing in my ears too!.
Now when I get up or move around, Every bone in my wrist, ankles, knees, shoulders, and toes pop. Except for my back, its so fused it just hurts all the time. I just think that my bones have grown older mighty fast. I feel(sound) like a 100 year old person.
But now, when they flare up, there is no room for them to pop and thats when you really experience the pain.......So my man. We're in the same boat..."The AS boat of Pain"....Good Luck...Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiven day.

Dan

Hey they do the barking dogs and cats meowing to the tune of Jingle Bells. 'Tis the season maybe we could cut a record, Crepitis to Jingle Bells? Just a thought!
