Hoping to get to know who's working on their NSD or LSD. I have lots of questions and who better to ask than the folks on the front line!!

A newbie,

Coleen Ann

Dear Coleen,

Wow, I haven't visit this forum for two days and all is change.

Anyway, I'm working on NSD at the moment, following John's suggestion and I think my condition is improve in the better way.

I'm trying to reduce the usage of NSAID and hopefully I can reduce it very soon with NSD.

I'm following John's guidance and try not to eat any kind of starch, it's very hard but it's worth to try.

I don't know whether I could become a good source of information but I can tell you my own experience if you like to. Just contact me at sintacpi@cbn.net.id.

Take care,

Sinta

Hi Coleen,

I'm on the LSD / London AS diet, and my food intake is very different from John's. Unlike him I am a big meat eater, especially beef and chicken. The shooting season has started over here so I'm also getting pheasants, wild rabbit etc. Plenty of veg and fruit, milk, cheese, yoghurt, beer.

Hi Bilko,
Which foods do you find give you the most pain problems? Do you think people with AS have food allergies?

Thanks,

Coleen Ann

Do you have any information on the LSD/London AS diet? Right now I want to look at the differences in the two diets.

Thanks,

CA

Well Coleen, I couldn't say that any particular high starch foods cause more trouble than others. Whether some are more efficiently digested before they reach the lower gut where the klebsiella waits perhaps John may know. I used to eat lots of all the major starch sources.

Perhaps the significant difference between those of us who can benefit from the LSD as opposed to NSD is that we have some starch tolerance. For instance, I can allow myself one thin slice of toast with my breakfast fry up, generally the only starch I allow myself. And when I eat out with friends or family, say once a week, I will eat what everybody else eats but small portions of the starch and avoid them if possible. This doesn't seem to do me any harm. But John, and recently Chris (Iffot), report bad reactions to even small amounts of starch and need to do the NSD. Hopefully you will find the LSD is good enough.

Dear Krishna:

Unfortunately, none of the grains are starch-free, and I am suspicious of cabbage, too. Bananas are starchy, and strawberries with their outer coating of tiny seeds can be dangerous for anyone with a predisposition to diverticulitis--these seeds are starchy, too. Any product that has been to the miller--all of the baker's goods--are lethal to us. Almost anything organic that is so finely divided can act as the bacterial substrate. Suggest switching from grains to nuts (not peanut or cashew)--almonds are very good, and sunflower seeds are starch-free. Please note also that fruits that are not quite ripe can contain substantial amounts of starch--test everything at first. Bean pods--like snow peas should be used only in great moderation, and eggplant is starchy when cooked, so moderation urged with this one, too. If you have a psoriatic complication, tomatoes should only be eaten cooked.

Please perform the iodine test on all foods in your early stages of the NSD; you may be able to later (after intestinal healing) add foods that have some starch back into your diet.

Tofu is not starchy, either is regular paneer. Okra and bitter melon are very good against AS, as are cranberry and pineapple. Good herbs to use are fenugreek and garlic. Be careful of some powdered herbs, additives, and restaurant foods that contain thickeners (cornstarch, MSG).

Best of luck on the diet,

Regards,
John

Dear John,
Thanks very much for the information. I want to take the food that fights against AS.
Will try the diet and post the progress in a few days
Thanks again,
