Hi Angie,

Don't think I've said Hi before, so "HI!!!"

Maybe we will get chatting a bit more now, as I've just started going LSD and aiming for NSD too!

I've read your posts before and know you have a whole lot more going on than me, and I really admire your amazing spirit in coping with it all. Hope this diet really works out for you Angie, you could do with a break!

Take care,

Jan

Hello and "ongi etorri" (wellcome) to the gang.

I know you from the General Forum, reading about yours pains and hopes and also about your solidarity with the others sufferers. And also glad to see you here so brave.

On this forum you have people very wise on AS and the NSD. Let me -I can't teach you nothing- give you only one advice: be pacient. Inside the NSD, everyone must find his/her own way. And for that, It's necessary some time. But soon you'll see the improvement. When I'm having a flare and say to my wife "is so long this way", she answer: "And howmany time have you spent descending to the hole?".

Best regards.

Hi Again Angie,
I see that others have answered some of your questions already. I would not eat cheese if your Dr said no and when you start seeing results from NSD eat a tiny amount and see if you react to it. I find that WE are the ones who know what we can and can't eat. That is why I said you have to LEARN your diet.
I was a GREAT drinker of pop (loved Mt Dew & Pepsi) and COFFEE. The fun coffee with the gooey chocolate and frothy stuff in it! YUM! I miss it ALOT, but I can and do live without it just fine. I cut down at first, but I found if I just totally cut it out of my diet my cravings for it were lessened. I drink herb teas some, but I don't really enjoy them that much yet. I got a water purifier and I find I LOVE cold, pure water! I drink it with a little lemon wedge. Very refreshing! I sipped some pop the other day and it was SO SWEET it tasted like the stuff you have to drink when you take that test for glucose when you are pregnant!! Do you remember that stuff?
I also LOVE Welch's Concord Grape Juice. YUM YUM! It takes away the cravings for starch and sugar very well. I actually can't stand it "straight" so I water it down about 1/3 to 1/2 with filtered water. Much better!
Hope this helps and again if at all possible read Breaking the Vicious Cycle, with your IBS I believe you will understand so much more why the no starch thing works.
Take Care,
Janet

Hello Bilko.....
Unfortunately my Rheumy put me on that about late December....and was okay for about a couple days...then started itchin.......then a couple days after that I wake up and have a horrible red raised large lumps on my calves......all over them. My Rheumy sent me to the dermatologist and said to get off of it immediately.....he said it was a vascular reaction to the medicine.

Unfortunately this has happened to me before with various meds and foods. I will try to talk to my GP about it.....he is a pretty open minded doctor. I have been seeing him for about 8 1/2 yrs now and will discuss the possibility of antibiotic treatment.

Talk to you later......

Pleasure to meet you !
Buggy is a fellow cat lover as well !! Thanks for the kind words....I just try to keep my chin up for my little girls and my husband. I get down sometimes...but then I dust myself off cuz' I dont want to give this disease the satisfaction of keeping me down.

Glad to hear you are LSD also......looks like we are heading in the right direction!!
Look forward to chatting more in the future!

Hi George.....
My doctor at the time said I could resume a normal diet after my surgery...but after battling the H Pylori bacteria.....my stomach has suffered tremendously. I cant eat red meat without doubling over in agony. I've tried it before...only to nearly pass out from the pain. It is not a pleasant experience...so I just stare lovingly at my Hubbys hamburgers!! That and tomato sauce are lethal on my stomach.

My gastroentologist is the one that also recommended I eat more fish and chicken. After she checked out my tummy ......she showed me pics of my large intestine....so irritated...I bleed just from the touch of the little scope touching it. I just avoid those items because my stomach wont tolerate them. I still long for them.......sigh.....ohh why AS.......why did you take my hamburgers away I say every day!!

Take care.....

Pleasure to meet you Pello.....
Always so nice to meet someone across the country....I am from San Antonio Texas....quite a distance from you !!

Yes....I will have to try to be patient. I have had my worst flare up since my back surgery in January...it has not subsided and my docs cant give me any relief. It is very frustrating to be in constant pain and want some quality of life back. I dont expect to run marathons...but I have so much muscle weakness and back problems that it is a tough battle. I know there are others in much more serious condition than I am...so that keeps me going....because if they can keep fighting it...then I certainly cant give up either....

Take care.....

Hi Angi and Welcome !!!
Nice to see you here, trying to make the best of it. We will all help you here, support you and answer your questions (if possible).

I see that you (like me) have had a battle with the Pylori bacterium. I'm sorry to hear that you still have problems with the stomach. A tip for you: Papaya contains a lot of proteolytic (protein breaking) enzymes, they even use dried papaya to make meat more tender. So maybe you can combine the papaya in a meat dish for a better digestion. If not there is nothing wrong with fish and poultry, they contain a lot of proteins and maybe less iron, but since you have become a spinach lover that should be no problem .

I don't know what a soda is (is it a Coke or Pepsi or all drinks with bubbles), anyway the bubbles are no problem but the excess sugar and the cafeïne are. Since you asked about the apple juice: all fruit and fruit juices (preferably made by yourself) are good except the banana and the avocado. The yoghurt is an individual thing. So you better not it eat in the beginning and when everything is getting better you might try it out. I am trying at the moment and will let you know. Well I guess there must be tons of questions left. Keep asking!

Gerard
