Thanks for the offer George. No need though, she is my favorite sister in law. She just likes good alliteration and busting my horns.
I actually enjoy my job and the opportunities to help people it offers or at least in the unpleasant situations the opportunity to treat all parties with dignity when another lawyer might not.

Hi Paul,
Thats an interesting question, but in my case I've worked at many jobs.
My husband is an ICU Nurse and was the main bread winner. The jobs I had were to supplement the income while raising three children. But I will
share what I have done.

Shoe Store Clerk - Worked at two different shoes stores in my life, one on the west coast and another up north.
Waitress - Did that when I was young with two babies at home.
Dietary Aide II - Worked at a hospital, ran the staff cafeteria.
Secretary - For a major auto insurance company.
Child Care Provider - Responsible for a tribe of eight children full-time
Retail Manager - Merchandising, ordering and inventory of ten fashion
departments. Supervised employees.
Licensed Commercial Cleaning Business - was my own, did it for eight years.

My Volunteer work - Spent many years working with teenagers in my church
preparing them for confirmation. Was a certified catechist.
When I was young... Was the first woman in the state of Montana to
join the Jaycees. (0:

Also, I had one son in football, a daughter in cheerleading, a son in band.

But the other good stuff was the camping we did with our kids, the cub-
scouts and brownies... the t-ball and little league. And all the special
events with our church.

I've lived in five states, 21 different homes, and went to ten schools.

My Dad was in Naval Research. My Mom was a traditonal mother...
very religious.
So now that I have landed in Southern CA where the weather is good and our
families are close again, I think I can finally say I'm Home!! (0:

Peace!!

Sorry Cindy,

We don't have an on-line catalogue. If there's something you need and you can describe it, I'll gladly try and find it for you.

Actually, this is GA Susan (now MI Susan at least for a while). I have done some serious soul searching about my "occupation" in the last few months. I have been doing investments for several years now and it just isn't doing what I want it to do with limited things that I seem to be able to do these days. My doc in GA suggested that I apply for disability back in the spring (he brought it up, I didn't) Like many of the rest of you are doing and have done in the past, I'm still fighting with this.

When I first came to MI, I felt so much better that I thought I'd give staying here a try for a while. Now my problem is finding a doc to work with me on the current meds that have worked better than anything else. So far I've struck out many times. I do have a doc lined up for Thurs afternoon who sounds like the best possibility so far. He's the first to even mention talking to my doc in GA. (yeaaaaa!) After I get that settled(cause I'm absolutely NO GOOD without the right meds), then I hope to find a regular paying job with a few benefits. I feel like such a whiner when friends here tell me of jobs available, but some of them are jobs that wear out teens, so I KNOW that I wouldn't last too long at those jobs.

The list of replies to this question does give me some ideas about what to search for that I might be able to handle. Problem is, I think I want a 'POSITION' and not a 'JOB,' : )

GA Susan
So far I haven't hooked up my computer and I really miss this place. After this AM I think I'm gonna have to get someone to help rearrange furniture to get on the web again.

You are a great bunch of people! : )

Well, let's see....I thought I had the best job going, but Tammy being both a "boo boo kisser" AND a "rat groomer" has me beat hands down.

I'm a guitar player by nature I guess, went to music school in the mid-80's and played in bands while doing the standard warehouse/restaurant jobs, but that wasn't cutting it. I had grown up in the Mid-West and camped, hiked, and canoed around the U.S. and Canada, and after working in a music studio that did jingles and a stint with Greenpeace I wanted to work for a group that protected nature in some way....

I found a job at the Central Park Zoo working for the Wildlife Conservation Society, and ran their Membership Site Sales program for it and the Queens and Prospect Park Zoos here in NYC. I was outdoors in the park everyday, in the middle of Manhattan, and could walk over and look at a polar bear named Gus, or step into a rainforest called the Tropic Zone. But, I dealt with the general public and would talk until blue, in 95 degree weather. Often my coworkers would tell me I'd been saying "wildlife conversation society" all day long, and then I knew it was hot. Getting off work and wandering into Central Park to see a free concert like Paul Simon's didn't hurt however....

I moved uptown to da Bronx Zoo three years ago, and have now been with WCS for ten years. Played in several bands as well, and commute everyday from Queens, which is the biggest bummer when you are flaring up and the subway is jerking along at 60 mph and you feel like the tin man. Yet walking or limping past the lion as he roars his good morning is more than enough to lift my spirits!!

I produce membership newsletters now and provide content for our website, http://www.wcs.org (those little animal buttons on the left? All me, baby...), and get to interact with WCS scientists, vets, and zookeepers, and must answer all the membership emails coming in from far off lands like New Jersey and yes...Iran. Questions like, "where can I go to pet a monkey?" and "what do worms eat?" keep me out of trouble and typing away.

When you work at the zoo, everyone asks if you get to touch/work with the animals- of course we have some lame one-liners for that question, but my job is purely administration type stuff. Without the zoo, I never would have had the health benefits needed to diagnose and treat my AS, or go back to school and finish the BA degree that I blew off while strumming away my youth, so I count myself blessed and hope I can keep it going!

Paul, I am a retired Nurse....I did love my job, but had to retire in 1996 due to my health...spent a good part of my nursing career in nursing homes and found it very rewarding! It is a lot of fun to see what others' do for a living...thanks for the great post..DC

Hi Coleen Ann,

I didn't know you were in Southern California too. I thought it was just Deb and me. We live close to the beach...about 7 miles...and have very nice weather pretty much all year round except right now it is on the warm side. I am glad you like California and very happy that you are surrounded by your family...and Welcome home!

Take care and huggggggs,

Lisa
