Personally I stay alway from all sauses at restaurants and shopping in grocery stores. They almost always have starch added.

I keep it simple with olive oil and vinegar. I found one salsa sause in States that was all natural and I would buy that as well.

I went very basic with diet at first, to keep it simple and to know if it would work quickly.

There was an individual many years ago at Kickas that wrote, "live to eat or eat to live... make your choice". I choose "eat to live".

The diet requires discipline and it is not easy... but in my opinion if you are buying a lot of processed foods, starch is going to sneak into your diet.

Best to you,

Tim

Yep, been there. Had quite a bit of difficulty when I stopped my medication for a few days. Fortunately I had already proved to myself that diet worked, so I knew I just had to stick with it. I actually too a slower road than you and was scaling back starch, and kept eating rice for quite a while. Every now and then I would eat just apples, pears, grapes and oranges for 3 days and by the 3rd day pain would go. And yes the surge in energy is noticeable, although curiously it is energy without stamina.

>> anything with Soy in them are no good ?

Most soy products should be avoided, except tofu which is actually starch free when made traditionally. And the other exception is..

Soy Lecithin : yes soy lecithin is ok, the starch has been removed from this

Chocolate : some react. It has a little starch. Also the dairy content could throw some people.

Gluten : avoid. Only experiment with this when you are pain free.Test with iodine first.

Gelatin : safe. As is Agar jelly. There is even a japanese noodle made from seaweed that has no starch btw..

Glucose : yes, although often made from wheat it is safe despite typically being a nasty synthetic thing wink

Tapioca Dextrin : nope. Way too starchy.

>> craving bad

If you really are craving starch and can't say no please eat glutinous rice instead of other starches. It is better tolerated, and if you are lucky it won't even make you sore at all (it doesn't bring on my AS)

>> McDonalds beef

Yes I read that in the same book I think. I tried it and most times I get away with it. Best used only when travelling or when absolutely starving. They even have almond cakes in their McCafe's in oz now smile Still too much sugar for me to indulge in frequently but no issues as far as AS

>> Is the tomato sauce / mustard / onion / lettuce alright as well ?
>> Or just Beef and Tomato Sauce ?

Seems fine, I don't even react much to the cheese, and the big mac sauce is ok with me too. I am more worried about whether I manage to get all the crumbs off my meat.

Hi,
I just want to react on the smoking bit.
Unfortunately i think smoking will make your AS worse ! AS being an autoimmune disease, i think it is triggered by a toxic overload, that can come from food but can also be brought by environnemental toxins such as air pollution or cigarette smoke.
It is taxing your already weak and suffering immune system so definitely not a good idea.
I just spent 2 days at my folks, my dad is a smoker and i felt more pains than usual.
I quit 2 years ago thanks to Allen Carr's excellent book.
