If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Things go so bad I got put on anti-TNF which has helped somewhat.
I'm trying to combine general autoimmune paleo diet with NSD.
This basically leaves me with lamb, fish, avocado and greens. As I want to avoid alcohol, sugar, grains, nuts, dairy and sweet fruits... is this too much?
Is there anything else safe to eat?
Has anyone else tried a similar diet?
Also I have PsA, B27 neg and I have spinal involvement.
Thanks in advance.

That's tough. For me, nuts are a complete lifesaver and I couldn't do this diet without them.
PBC, widespread enthesitis. Currently managing symptoms (without NSAIDs) through low starch diet.

Yes, I also mostly stick to the AIP and NSD.
I eat eggs, seemingly without problems, but can't eat nuts or seeds, or nightshades. Too much fruit makes bacetrial overgrowth/Candida worse for me.
My foods are meat (chicken, fish, lots of wild caught salmon, organic beef), all the lettuces, spinach, chard, kale, the chois (Bok Choi, etc.), lots of broccoli, radishes, long English cucumber, kohlrabi, celery. The odd mushroom added to a stew. Mainly red, non starchy apples as far as fruit goes. Raisins sometimes when out and active for longer than a few hours.
Lots of home made olive oil dressing on my salads, typically two huge salads (breakfast and lunch) on an in-office work day.
I often green juice chard, kale, spinach, ginger, celery, some carrots - and blend this juice with berries. This is pretty much the only form of carrot /berry intake fo me.
The huge salad with meat and 125ml of EVOO is my "fuel before activity" meal. Large amounts of EVOO work incredibly well for me, allows me to go for a 3 hour bike ride, or longer hike, or 6 hours of work before eating again.
B27+, 2nd Rheumy: 'inflammatory backpain'. IBS + SI/lumbar/thoracic/cervical/knee/elbow stiffness & pain. Managing inflammation very well with diet since Jan 2011. Slow but consistent reduction in symptoms year by year. Haven't seen a physician in years. Took LDN (4.5mg) between 2013-2015, 2018-2019.

Kleb slayer, I'd like to try something similar to what you're on but no fruit except occasional berries.
Do you take any supplements or have you got all your nutritional bases covered with that diet?
It's pretty much the most limited diet you can get...
Any recipies or other tips would be most appreciated.
Do you have any problems with carrots?
Thanks

I'm trying to combine general autoimmune paleo diet with NSD. This basically leaves me with lamb, fish, avocado and greens. As I want to avoid alcohol, sugar, grains, nuts, dairy and sweet fruits... is this too much? It's really up to you. Hopefully you live in an area where there is a lot of variety for you with non-starchy greens. Just make sure you eat a lot of the non-starchy greens and get your healthy fats. I essentially had that diet for 4+ years. Last year, I relaxed the fruit embargo for some fruits, but I really don't eat too much fruit at all. The only fruits I eat now are blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and concord grapes - but only when they're in season. Is there anything else safe to eat? Extra-virgin Coconut Oil is great for energy. I eat a lot eggs and chicken/duck as well. Lamb is the only red meat I eat. After four years on the diet, I started eating some fruit again (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, concord grapes), but that's really more an exception than anything. While I think most nuts are bad, walnuts were OK for me. You may want to consider that in limited quantities. Has anyone else tried a similar diet? Yes. No starch, no sugar, no dairy. I make an exception with butter because of the purported gut healing properties. About two years into the diet, I allowed myself to use lemon once a week in cooking. Not sure if that helps, but good luck!

I'm curious ... why do you eat Lamb but not beef?
AS, IBS, reflux oesophagitis and dysphagia, PCOS/insulin resistance, asthma... Currently managing my AS with humira, methotrexate, low starch diet and exercises. Also taking omeprazole, metformin etc.

Thanks for the info foodie... it's a tough diet no doubt.
Could you tell me what differences you noticed on the combined paleo AID and the NSD? Pain levels, mental clarity and so on?
Did you use supplements or does what you describe cover all the bases for nutrition?

I do not know your personal case of AS, but I would think this is too restrictive. Short term maybe OK.. long term I would find it difficult. Tim

rippin,
A diet that's overly restrictive is bound to fail. Start off by only eliminating one type at a time and see how that helps you over a few weeks. If it doesn't, then resume eating that type and note the effect. Then try eliminating something else.
Often, just moderation in all that you eat will help a lot.

AS symptoms started 1991. Official dx in 2006 with HLA-B27+, fused SIJ, bone spurs in back, extreme rib/hip pain, and other family with SpA. Started Enbrel in 2006 with good results, but stopped in 2010 due to nerve damage (MS) from it. Getting good results with no-starch diet since 2011.

You're right there,
I've been eliminating food over time though I backslide on rare occasions. The diet I describe is my ideal diet which I work towards. I just wanted to know if anyone else had reached it successfully. They have and managed it for 4 years. Gives me a goal to work towards.
Truth be told I would live on dirt if it reduced the pain substantially.
Sorry to hear about your MS. You must be on of the few it's had an impact on. Does that mean you can't try and other anti-TNFs ever?
I was on the trial for a drug called Otezla which got FDA approval last week. For PsA though, it worked brilliantly but I have to wait years for it to be released in Oz.
