Anyone out there has problem omega fish oil?
The funny thing it is suppose to be anti inflammatory. I just loaded myself with this 2000mg daily. My knee is swelling so bad I can't walk. Not recalling taking any high starch food this few days.
Confuse..,..

Hi

It isn't the Omega 3 your taking causing the swelling. Your not taking enough to help with inflammation. The dose is 6000mg a day for an anti-inflammatory effect. It will take six weeks at that dose to make any difference.

Hi Janet

Thanks for the feedback. I just had simponi a week plus back. Thought I will be in better shape. All improving until the knee flare up so bad I can't walk. The only thing I believe I took extra was the omegas....nevertheless maybe its just in my head. ...have to miss work today...darn

My flares are brought on by allergies and "who knows".

So I think for you it is just coincidence that you flared at the same time that you tried the fish oil.

Hi Don,

I too experience a flare in my symptoms whenever I take fish oil (I tried the Now brand as well as a very good Swiss brand, that does quality testing at every batch). My left knee swells and my lower back is hurting much, much more intense too.
I went through so many articles on the internet regarding the Omega 3 oil side effects but all I could find was that it has tremendous anti-inflammatory benefits. In my situation, I experience quite the opposite: a pro inflammatory effect.

As a result, I avoid the fish oil pills.

Thanks,
alina.

I suffer with a horrible increase in pain whenever I have tried fish oil or vitamin D. I recently found out that I can't take anything with soy so that could have contributed to my pain, but also if you have leaky gut it is common too.

Hello, DNIAP:

There are a number of reasons the oils can seem to increase symptoms. Knee edema is very indicative of the type and location of lesions that cause AS in the first place (primary lesion).

Generally, if someone with AS had sudden onset along with other symptoms (gastrointestinal issues or urinary tract problems), or had any type of reactive arthritis (which will evolve into AS), they are more prone to the knee edema.

We react to oils by producing bile, and if we have gall bladder issues we can experience an extreme reaction, albeit rather transient.

However, when we are unable to process waste lymph, which has an oily component, we are also unable to dump unused dietary fats and oils. When the colon is inflamed (colitis, cryptitis, diverticulitis, etc), it cannot properly process out the oils and waste lymph and chyme, so results in allowing gravity to take over and it falls through our hips and knees finally down to ankles unless we can reverse this trend in time.

It is important to do a cleansing by juicing or the Edgar Cayce Three Day Apple regimen, or a simple water-only fast for at least four or five days. This can also clear up residual AS symptoms, to some extent.

I do not recommend the fish oils as much as EVOliveOil but in a flare nothing comes close to GLAs (borage seed oil) and another raw juice: Fresh wheatgrass juice (4-6oz) three days in a row on empty stomach. And there are even more things which could be done, but they should not really be discussed so openly here.

Castor oil packs, pressing around the area with edema along with heat (wrap a heating pad around it), and good soaking will help.

HEALTH,
John

If in capsule, look at the capsule as well if relying purely on diet for pain relief.

Hi Guys...

thanks for the feedback. DragonSlayer that's a real good detail explaination.
Yesterday i refuse to take any of those capsule omega fish oil. My rheumy told me it's ok at 2000mg. Can take later...it's a long term thingy. I went to fix up my knee. Took the liquid out and he did an injection. SO knee is working fine...
Very possible is the fish oil omega..I really recall each time i take it...i feel bad.

Now what's really amazing today is I work up and i felt 95% functional..close to normal. My A.tendon is no longer stiff..my arm has no pain...my neck is totally normal. my chest pain and stiffness is almost 95% ok.
Not too sure if simponi kicks in..coz i was at 60% functional before. Now is the 11th day..
i'm on my 4th day of low carbs. Yesterday i was 100% no carbs at all. Just chicken and veggy...tough to eat in Malaysia...everything is starchy.
I feel like jumping and say...it's going into remission...but heck..let's wait for another few days.
Yesterday my ESR report is at 72..just got it today. Last did was 11 days ago it was at 63. Weird and I feel almost normal today..
Keep u guys posted. For now..I'm enjoying the day....never felt this good since may...feels like a real human..:)

Appreciate the feedback..
