Hi Ally,

thank you for taking the time to read.

I have introduced very little nuts and seeds(none salted) into my diet and night shades with no reaction so far. I am thinking of taking them back out of my diet though because I did react to them before the fast and have a feeling they might slowly become problematic again and I don't want to chance it. Actually I treated my self to some nice greasy pizza a few days ago and had no reaction..besides thinking the pizza tasted so salty. I won't be doing that again. Your taste buds reset after a fast.

In my experience the first two days of the fast was really hard..I was craving every junk food the fast food industry had to offer and I never craved stuff like that before the fast. Once my body went into Ketosis (day 3) the hunger, the cravings, the feeling of wanting to crawl out of your own skin... went away. So it's that 2 day hurdle that you got to get over!

I think the best way to start a fast is to eat only raw veg an fruit for two days. The day before your fast have a good snack before bed. I wouldn't suggest starting after lunch because you will get your digestion system going again for the day and by bedtime you will be feeling hunger and having difficulty going to sleep. one of the things that helped me is that I was so exhausted from travelling I could just have a nap when I felt hunger.

I wish you luck..Send me a msg when you are going to start your fast, I would love to help in any way..It's not easy but If your truly ready for it you will be able to get through it!

that's great stuff. Fasts quiet everything down so you can heal.
I do believe food has a great impact on the body.
I did a three week juicing fast with one meal a day. I felt horribly weak and lost a lot of weight. Being skinny already I hated it. It did not help my AS much.

But you're approach seems very sound and your proof it can work.

Was weight loss a big issue?

Evan,

Great information. Did you ever have your CRP tested before and after this fasting? If so, I would be curious to know if there was a drastic change.

There is a man from Lithuania who states he got rid of AS by the means of water fasting.

He was keeping a diary writing down all the process almost every day.

http://golodanie.su/forum/showthread.php?t=6116

It's quite hardcore. The regimen is:

* 18 days of water fasting.
* 30 days of reintroducing foods gradually and gaining the weight.
* 21 day of water fasting (right after 30-days pause).
* 30 days of reintroducing foods gradually and gaining the weight.
* 19 days of water fasting (right after 30-days pause).
* Reintroducing foods gradually and gaining the weight.

At the beginning of the journey:
weight: 55.8kg
height: 172cm

This happened April 5th 2009.
The man is still symptom-free.

Great story, It isn't unheard of for people that fast for more complicated ailments to do a series of fasts...your body needs a minimum of 3 weeks in-between fasts to rebuild mucus in GI track.

after my fast i was ready to say i got rid of my AS...but it was just put into remission...fasting is basically like an antibiotic as it eliminates both good and bad bacteria/microbes in the gut and at the same time transferring all energy used to digest to healing the body..Low starch diets have the same idea as the diet starves the good/bad bacteria..fasting is extremely useful tool for people with AS and recommend doing at least a 2 week fast twice a year. that being said if not careful symptoms could eventually creep back.

I am now heavily researching introducing Faecal microbial transplants after water only fasting.. It is believed FMTs will be more beneficial if the body is already in a state of Remission

thanks for posting crv.

take care,
Evan

Hi Evan
Thanks for the interesting post - got me thinking about the different options . Haven't had enough down time to try a longer fast but the shorter ones ( 1 to 2 days ) seem to help esp if I take oregano oil and colloidal silver after ( as antibiotic treatment to go after the Kleibsiella -:) What is the CMO[Cetyl Myristoleate] mentioned in your post and how do you use it ? Also do you have a rhematologist in Ottawa area who will prescribe LDN ?? I am close enough to consider coming to Ottawa as I cannot get a script for LDN ( have ordered it online without as I am determined to try it ...-:)
Thanks !

my understanding on CMO is it is made from cartilage from animals that are immune to arthritis..more info here, http://www.tldp.com/issue/168/168cetyl.html . I convinced my fam doc to prescribe LDN for me then I had it made at a compounding pharmacy. Waiting list for rhumys in Ottawa is about 6 months and im not sure if they would proscribe as most push NSAIDS or TNF Blockers. Sometimes if you bring your doc research backing the potential benefits of LDN they will prescribe ...especially that 4mg is so little compared to the 50mg the drug is norm made at.
Cheers!

Thanks ! Yea my rheumy was adamant that he would not prescribe it till he found out more about it ( and the between the lines was "that will be the day that I find time to read the stack you just handed me" ...-:)
Ah well am going to keep ordering online as I am already getting interesting results from LDN ....will see if I can find CMO - or redouble my fish oil -:)
