Hi Lisa,
Thanks, but why does it make you sad that we are such animal people?

The traveling was totally unexpected so we had to go there and come right back so Brenda could go to work on those nights. It was a 5 hour drive round trip both times.

Take care,
James

Hi Louise,

The bubbles in the pop are indeed what kept your heartburn at bay - it's the bicarbonate in the soda that alters the pH of your stomach by neutralising the acid... that's why Alka Seltzer works.

I thought it would be the bubbles lol, and I knew it couldn't be the HFCS. Most of the time HFCS makes me hurt more, especially if it is combined with more starches.

Yes, I take fish oils too, mainly Cod Liver Oil though. I don't take a whole lot of supplements anymore because I have to use the money for the supplements for the bills for a while. Oh you are taking liquid fish oils? I bet that doesn't taste so great lol.

Take care,
James

Hi Tim,
Today I had a late start because of not being able to stay awake, but right now I feel great! I got up and walked around with no pain and no effort. I was surprised at how quickly I made it from point A to point B too. Thanks.

Take care,
James

Lol Kat,
Generally speaking, my conditions have been improving, except with the fatigue and brain fog mostly, standing in one place or sitting too long which make my SIs hurt, or doing anything that requires having thumbs lol.

The weather has been perfect for me today and yesterday. It is so nice outside.

Take care,
James

Hi Mig,

If your thumbs and SI joints are hurting more than they ever have, I worry that must be a lot then. Good that it comes and goes at least, to give you spells of feeling better!

Believe it or not, I never really noticed any pain in my SI joints before. I'm sure they used to hurt a lot when my hips were fusing, but between having hip pains and sciatica, my SI pains were unnoticeable to me back then. Fast forward 25 years or so and I can feel my SIs starting to hurt... so that's what I mean by they have been hurting more than they have ever been. smile

Yes, luckily I can catch a break from the thumb pains and SI pains. Walking and laying down relieves my SIs, and it's pretty easy to avoid heavy use of my thumbs for a while too. For a few years now the joints in my hands and wrists have been effected by AS, but only lightly, until someone who I was babysitting at the time bent my thumbs too far backwards. Ouch. I'm not complaining though, I'm just stating the facts lol. smile

That is terrific that you had the chance to travel out of state - twice even!

My brother had the weekend off, but his semi-truck was in the shop, so we went to go pick him up in Muncie Indiana. Then we drove him back 2 days later. We didn't use our mini-van though because it needs a tuneup, so we tagged along with his girlfriend in her SUV. I got to see a hawk and a bunch of classic cars while traveling. I also got to see (and climb into) my brother's truck too. It was fun.

Take care,
James

Hi Sue,
Thanks. Whenever I'm waking up for the day, I'm expecting to see her waking up too, but she's not here. frown

Hi Tommy,
Thanks. The traveling was an unexpected spur of the moment type of thing. We wouldn't have been able to go if we weren't promised to be back the same day. I wish Brenda had some days off (she doesn't have days off) so we could do some more/real traveling. The trip was 2.5 hours into Indiana, one way of course. I would have brought my camera but I figured Indiana looks the same as Ohio... and that kind of logic caused me to miss out on taking pictures of really nice classic cars lol.

Take care,
James

Hi Spondy_lishes,
I know about the impacts of carbonation too, but at the time sipping on some pop seemed so much easier than taking another medication for heartburn and or colitis. I was really never that into drinking pop though. Now that I am getting used to drinking water again the heartburn is starting to slowly improve. Each day seems to be getting a little better.

PLEASE do not start drinking sugar -free

I never like the taste of sugar alternatives so I won't be going that route. The only sugar I have now is a little table sugar for my cup of decaf coffee or tea. It's somewhat rare for me to eat desserts or sugary snacks too. If I ever do, it's only a small amount and only once in a great while.

Take care,
James

I don't drink anything with bubbles in it unless I let it go flat. I will leave the cap off for a while. That does not make the rest of my family happy, unfortunately. I don't like the sticky sugary feeling that most pop has, I usually stick to lemonade, iced tea or water. When I make lemonade or ice tea, I sweeten it with half sugar and half artificial sweetener. That way the sugar takes away that aftertaste from the sweetener. The drinks have less calories because I use only half the sugar. It works OK for me. If the pop helps your heartburn, you could use carbonated Soda water and make it into lemonade, or any other flavor you might like. It would have the bubbles, but not all the HFCS or chemicals. My hubby likes the soda water, he get flavored syrups to add to it.
