If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi Sam and Welcome to KA! The medications listed in this thread are the standard ones generally employed for the treatment of AS. Antibiotics, Minocycline would be considered more of an alternative treatment approach since in research studies over the years they've not proven to have a useful effect on AS. There are, never the less, some members here who use antibiotics as one med in their arsenal against AS, so hopefully you will find some benefits also. Like all medications, antibiotics are not without risks to consider... perhaps a search here or on the main forum will provide you some additional reading. hope you'll enjoy KA and stick around! mig

This is my first post. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if Sulfasalazine is available in Mexico. I spend six months here in Canada and six months in Mexico..the warm months...sure helps the pain of arthritis. But now the Doc wants me to go on Sulfasalazine....sure need to know if I can get it in Southern Baja Mexico and if it is even available in Mexico. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hello Barbara and welcome to KA. (nice to see another fellow Canadian!)
I do not know for certain but I'd bet that you won't have difficulty getting Sulfasalazine in Mexico. It's an older well known medication and widely available, as far as I'm aware. It is also known by the brand name of AzulfidineĀ® EN-tabsĀ®.
Hope this helps a little, mig

Moonbees, thank you so much for posting this - I found it very informative.
In fact, I'm sort of torn about what I learned: on one hand, I finally know what people are talking about when they put a long string of acronyms in their posts...on the other hand, I'm a little disappointed to realize that I've covered every section in there...I get the feeling that I'm running out of options where before, my ignorance gave me the impression that I had only just begun?
To add to Davo's comment about corticosteroids...prednisone is a drug often mentioned in here. It would be great to mention that one and list some of the associated dangers. It can be delivered through an IV and orally in pill form (dosages can go at least as high as 40mg, I know that much for sure).
Thanks again, this is a keeper that will be seen by many for a long time to come.

My husband has been given lyrica to try and help with the pain. He is on Oxycodone and cotin I'm hoping that they don't have a bad reaction to one another. Anybody try it for AS and have it help?

Hi Yes Ive just started taking Liyrica it does seem to be helping I still have pain but so far not as bad it seems to relax me and that is great. The night dose I take 3hours before bed and get a good nights sleep. The only side effect I have had is the morning dose seems to make me a bit light headed and dizzy for 3 or 4 hours. I take 75mg twice a day. Kevin

I believe Lyrica was used initially to treat shingles..adult chickenpocks... I haven't started any tx's except pain meds to tx the terrible pain in morning and after sitting a few moments. I have been on oxycontin 60 mg bid and take dilaudid 4 mg prn every 4 hours for breakthrough pn. I do take lasex ocasionally when I can't get my shoes on..the swelling gets really bad at times. I have developed a terrible rash on my face which the drs believe is a type of psoraisis. I also take anti depressant, clexa and xanax to sleep..it seems I need meds to do any normal functioning anymore and its still not "normal"

Hi everybody, New kid on the block. Please excuse my writing mistakes since i am not a native speaker of the English language. Many Thanks to the admins/creators of the kickAS. Great site, we need a place to exchange experiences among us, no doctor is able to understand what we are going through, i can't help my shelf wishing for a magic touch that even for a moment could transfer to others the pain that iam in; this would have saved me from a lot of bo*lsh*t that i have heard from "experienced" doctors.
Anyway here is a short background of my status.
i was diagnosed with AS (without the HLA B27) about a year ago while my first serious flare was 6 years ago (that was on my 32, 38 yo now). i was on NSAID for all this time and i had the serious pain come and go for periods but lately became as often as per week. Right now i am passing through one of my most painful flares and here is the list of meds that i am on:
- Humira 40mg every 14 days (2 shots up to now) - Dianicotyl for tuberculoses protection - corticosteroids for my current flare - MEDROL (Medtylprednisolone) - LYRICA - for pain control - Neurobion - B6,B12,B1 bitamins - Lonarid - painkillers - Antivom & Vertigo-Vomex - for my serious vertigo insidents - Movatec/fldene/voltaren - NSAIDS for my current flare. - Zantac/Loprasole/Losec - for my stomach
Any thoughts/suggestions are welcomed on the next considerations:
- are you aware of any treatment for high values of hepatic enzymes (indicating liver problems) ? Doctor strongly insists on dropping the NSAIds.
- Do you see any improvement with the use of corticosteroids ? I think that maybe my dose is quite low 24mg now and still not getting any better.
- Is there anyone on Humira with adequate pain/progress relief ? and is there a magic period that the drug needs to be effective? 2 shots up to but no difference for me.
Through early morning fog I see visions of the things to be the pains that are withheld for me I realize and I can see...
