If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Just checking to see if anyone has any advice. I normally have my biggest issues with my achillies tendon especially in my left foot/ankle. Tuesday I noticed I was having pain in my left foot/ankle, but it was on the side and not the same tendon that normally flares up. I've had pain in this area before, but not lately. So I looked on line and from what I can see it looks like it's the peroneal tendon that is giving me pain. The last few nights it's been throbbing bad when I try to lay down and rest.
We don't have insurance right now so going in to the dr is not an option and I won't have insurance till Nov 1st. I thought I'd check and see how others have dealt with this type of flare up.
I've been trying to stay off of it as much as possible, but it's harder to stay off of with hubby being gone and just me here. We've been planning since the end of last week for me to ride with him on Monday and stay out till Wed or Thursday. I have not told him about my ankle yet because I didn't want to worry him and I know how much he wants me to go a long next week. I'm just praying it improves over the weekend so that I'm able to go a long on Monday, but I need to be able to get in and out of the semi.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Kim

sorry to hear about your feet. the side of my foot has hurt now and then. hate that one, makes walking near impossible. just like all the other foot or ankle pain: rest (staying off my feet), elevation, ice, contrast baths. preventatively: the walking and the LDN. hope the feet feel better soon.

Hi Kim
I've have tendonitis of the peroneal tendon in both ankles which affects my walking...like I can't. I took 50mg for 7 days of prednisone and by day 3 I felt a huge improvement. So if you have any pred you might consider taking it. My left ankle was really bad and the rheumy did an injection into the tendon sheath to help it along. I also use anti-inflam gels or cream and find they help too. I try to stay of my feet when they are really bad.
Hope this helps Cheers

Hi Kim, I bet you will find this common among AS'ers so hopefully you will get a lot of feed back. I'm one that heat actually helps me with this. Try anything and hopefully one of them will help you. It would be nice if you could get away with your hubby next week. Hugs your way Cindy

I have this prob all the time too. Thankfully with rest and ice it usually settles down in about 10 days (as opposed to SIJ pain which is pretty much constant). Good luck.

My wife just had a tendon in her ankle replaced. Still waiting for the bill. We have insurance, but the deductible is large. The tendon was on the side of the ankle towards the front. It is a very long recovery time.

Hi Kim
Sorry you are in pain
I am on my feet all the time for work, my left achilles tendon always gives me trouble, other than rest I use Voltaren topical which really seems to help. I get samples from the doctor's office. Maybe your doctor could give you some samples.

a number of people i see have recommended a topical nsaid. i use that too on choice spots when other things don't work. i tried voltaren gel but it was way too weak to do much good, maybe a little. my compounding pharmacist recommended something that he says many of the local orthopedists, etc order for their patients, KIP (10% ketoprofen, 10% ibuprofen, 2% piroxicam), compounded by the compounding pharmacist. a little goes a very long way. i mostly save it for my spine, as one can not ultrasound on bone, can cook the bones. but it works really well, and i don't have the typical nsaid side effects to the topical stuff as i do to the oral stuff.

Hey Kim! I get tendonitis in these tendons too. It isn't too bad though. I usually feel it if I am walking on uneven ground. It feels like a sprained ankle but I have to remind myself that those are just AS tendons. I have achilles tendonitis pretty bad. That affects me a lot more than the peroneals do. I sometimes feel it in my achilles just lying in bed on my back. New shoes can be difficult too. Gentle stretching has helped my achilles but I don't do anything for the peroneals except rest.

When my ankles and feet are being obnoxious, it really helps me to stretch them before I stand on them. I just do a few simple stretches, very gently. First I point my toes toward my nose and hold them there for 5 seconds. I do that 3 times. Then I rotate them in clockwise direction ~ slowly ~ 5 times. Then counter clockwise. I spread my toes out as wide as I can, and then curl them under, then back... holding each for 5 seconds. That usually helps. Good luck!
