If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Tink - ASers tend to have a highly reactive gut - and we won't mention 'anal leak'...haha
Hope y're better now.

I didn't even think of that! I'm in the wrong thread aren't I? And just when I had something genuine to contribute! lol Am still very "gripey" and feeling like the proverbial! But I'm sure I'll be back on my feet by tomorrow. I think you are right about the highly reactive gut thing... since I have been "experimenting" with starch after months of none - I have noticed I am slowly feeling the effects. I only showed my Mum how bad my eczema is on my hands yesterday and today, after 24 hours of not eating anything... it has gone - like completely gone Although I have been feeling dreadful after this "bug" or whatever, I still feel generally like my body is cleansed. I have been so bloated and uncomfortable since eating the evil starch again. I am going to go back on track. It is obvious that starch causes me serious problems. Take care, you

I would talk to your doctor about it. There could be something you're eating that brings on a reaction like this. Is it the same foods causing it every time? It could be the meds you're on. These are the side effects of Sulfasalazine:
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, drowsiness, dizziness or trouble sleeping during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or become severe, inform your doctor. May cause urine to be orange-brown in color. This is not harmful and will disappear when the medication is stopped. This medication increases sensitivity to sunlight. Notify your doctor if your condition worsens or you develop: easy bruising. Rarely, this medication can cause serious, even fatal, side effects such as a severe peeling skin rash known as Stevens- Johnson syndrome, blood disorders (e.g., agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia), or liver damage. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop any of the following symptoms: skin rash or blisters, unusual fatigue, persistent sore throat or fever, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, abdominal pain. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Hope that helps a little.
Hugs,
Kat

I used to get occasional bouts of sudden severe nausea that came on several hours after eating and lasted until there was absolutely nothing left in my stomach. I now know it was all to do with my at the time undiagnosed coeliac disease. What would happen would be that over a period of days prior to that I would have eaten rather more bread than normal, and it would get to the point where my gut was so damaged it basically just closed off below the stomach (never quite sure if it was villous atrophy so bad the gut collapsed, or inflammation that blocked it). At that point, any food after that just wouldn't go through my stomach and the only way out was up. After an episode I would probably fast for 24 hours or so, be extremely careful with what I ate for a bit longer and then slowly get back into bread and gluten eating, and eventually I would push the limit a bit much again and have another episode. Two other members of my family had the same pattern prior to their coeliac diagnoses.
Long story, but if it is only you in the family then its not food poisoning, and getting a coeliac test is a good start.

Thank you Sunnypower and Molly C. To Erika, No fever, just some chills and clammy. And lbcrzn, sometimes I do not eat enough, usually I take my medicine with an apple, can't do dairy. Thanks for the information Tinkerbell and Inanna, I had this happen before sulfasalizine when I was taking some pain medicine like Tylenol. I keep suspecting Celiac, so when I read Cemc's reply, I thought I better look into the gluten thing. A close family member just a got a positve test back from Enterolab(online lab), where they check for gluten antigens in stool samples. My bloodwork came back negative 6 months ago when I first saw the rheumatologist I am seeing now. I keep reading how the Celaic bloodtests miss alot of people. Thanks everyone, I appreciate it, I'll run all this by my rheumatologist.
Diet change has improved my RA. I feel best eating raw veggies and some fruits and avoiding grains, sugars, nightshades, beans and dairy. Sed rate dropped from 65 to 19, but it took over a year. www.fatsickandnearlydead.com excess fat/oils = pain for me recipes for raw food on Youtube "raw food romance" and "healing josephine" Josephine is in remission from RA after two years by change diet/exercise

ValsMum - I think that CEMC 'might' have hit the answer. Go get a *Complete overhaul re Celiac.
Suggest first searching PubMed, MedicalNewsToday and then Google for: 'Celiac - Tests'. Get fully armed with relevant info to discuss with yr rheumy - and don't back down... *Insist that you get a FULL work-up. Whatever that 'work-up' may involve, get it done. Celiac aint to be played with (not suggesting that yu would 'play' but, you 'may' need to be *strongly *insistant!)
Take care, Go well -

fyi.. some docs will only rely on small intestine biopsy. tube down throat into intestine to get ssample. they check the villi for blunting. the villi are little finger-like protrusions that get blunted down when a celiac eats gluten. dam i wish i were celiac instead of AS!!!

number of reasons why doctor and i don't think i have celiac, but to make really sure, here are the tests he's having me do:
already not only had the beginning of small intestine examined during upper endoscopy, but biopsied as well, i think?
anyway, have the script for the following blood work, for which doc says if it comes back "correctly" will rule out celiac like 99%:
HLA-DQ2 HLA-DQ8 tissue transglutaminase antibody serum IgA
so if anyone wants celiac ruled in / out, this looks like the blood work to have, and blood work so simple, really i think if anyone even suspects, well, doctor should just order the tests, IMHO.
