Erica, 9 years ago I would have laughed in the face of anyone who told me I'd be doing medical/scientific research and actually understand what I was reading. I am, however, doing just that. Although, truth be told, beyond a certain number of syllables (say, 4), Latin words, and when they're spouting numbers and such, I develop a physical tic. I do. "Dammit, Jim, I'm an artist, not a scientist!!"
You'll surprise yourself at how much you can understand. You really will.
