Hello everyone,
Hope you are all having a good week. I have a question. Can SI pain present as pain in groin and front thigh area? I am booked in for a hip arthrogram MRI but I think pain is coming from my spine.
Thanks for your time,
Kind regards,
Debra.

Nah - SIJ pain will go down the butt into the back/outside of the thigh.

Pain originating from the hip joint will classically be in the groin and down the front of the thigh to the inside of the knee area.

Hi Debra, The type of pain you are describing can come from the Lumbar spine, particularly L2/3 to L4/5. Have you had an MRI of your Lumbar spine lately? Does your leg pain stop at the knee or continue down?

Just concurring with Louise!
Why an MRI when a hip xray will likely suffice?

Hi Girls,
Thanks for the speedy replies. I thought I would answer in one post otherwise I would be repeating myself!
I posted a month ago regarding an accident I had at work when one of the kids in my class flopped / jumped into my back when I was crouching to do another students shoes up. (This happened way back in Feb.)
Anyway, I have been on light duties since with flared up lower back and pain in groin and down thigh. (First few weeks pain running down to my knee and my leg felt like it could collapse.)
I am generally feeling a lot better as long as I keep things low key, no extra walking, no shopping etc. If I over do things my leg hurts and i wake up with a crooked back from muscle spasm.
Specialist feels I have a torn labral in hip?
I wish he would also do an MRI in my lower back as I have bulging discs, nerves compressed, spondilithesis and butterfly verterbra..... and AS. He does not think I need one.
I suppose it is a process of elimination.
I do appreciate your feedback and thank you for your time.
Cheers!
Debra

That answers Jeanna's question then - I was wondering if they were doing an MRI to rule out a labral tear or dysplastic hip...

The pain pattern you describe fits with disc bulges at L2/3 or 3/4...

If they know you already have all that stuff going on in your back they would probably find nothing new on another MRI...

Sounds like you are doing the right thing, I know I have had many issues with my SI'S and have been in the hopsital several times with them. When they are inflammed everything hurts back, groin, hips, thighs. I think an MRI and a Bone scan would be a good idea.

Keep us updated.

SI joint pain for me begins at the lower back radiating through the hip area and continuing to the groin. Basically draw a circle around the SI joint area and it hurts there.

I had pain in my buns...either left or right side...typically not at the same time. It would radiate into my front thigh. I would force myself to go on walks with friends at work to stay mobile. OH THE PAIN going down slopes! My friends were so kind as they would go slow for me. Now, that pain is gone...so happy and hope it lasts...my friends say I walk too fast.
