I saw my dr. last week. He told me I am considered disabled because of my Scoliosis dx. I am limited in standing, bending, twisting. I wear orthotics so I can function. I suffer bad back pain when I do too much. He has written a letter for me as I want to take a course in Accounting and will need help financially for it. The only jobs available are not suitable for me.

I'm thinking that getting the official status is a good thing, isn't it, Magician? That should open doors for some support for you, I hope. Not that anyone wants this but if you are disabled it seems helpful to get that recognized. hugss

Hello Magician,

Good luck... in States I was an accountant. A lot of sitting, but obviously not too physical that I could handle job with my AS.

Say, has he considered surgery? A friend of mine had quite severe scoliosis (she was in her 60s at the time) and had a couple of surgeries. One straightened the top of her spine, the other did the bottom. She came through them beautifully.

I'm pretty sure it was scoliosis she had, anyway.

I'm glad your doctor is helping you like this. hugss

I know, WendyR. It is a shame in order to get help I had to have my dr. provide a letter documenting my illness. This is not something which makes me proud by any means.

Yes! That is why I want retraining for it. I shouldn't have to lift heavy weights or twist putting stress on my spine. 95% of available jobs in my area involve standing for hours or lifting/bending continuously. They would 'damage' me to quote Data from Star Trek.

Hi Magician,

Glad your doctor wrote a letter for you to help get access to the training you want! It's a good move to find a way to continue on a path that will protect your spine as much as possible in the long run.

I know you have the diagnosis of scoliosis now, but from reading your blog, I am not sure why it wouldn't be secondary to your original dx of AS. It sure seems like AS fits, imo.

Good luck and hope you enjoy the courses!
