Sue,
It seems a bit strange in many places this year.
But no problem, just a matter of adjusting, eh?
I wish I had osme of that black Iowa dirt.....

i think you are now getting our march snow,

first time in recorded history that we got no snow in march!

my first year back here, 2003-2004, st. paddy's day 2004, so much snow one night, i almost didn't make it home, got stuck a few times along the way, but could always get going again, til the hill 2 houses away, had to put the car in the neighbor's driveway with a note, but at least i was an easy walk from home when i got stuck for good.

and then this year, no snow in march, its all crazy
think that's why i love the weather, just so unpredictable, its great! roll

Sue,
I like your attitude about the snow.It is unpredictable. All we can do is prepare. I usually have an overnight kit in each vehicle incase I am called out of town, or if I would get stuck. Everything is 130 miles form here, so we jsut feel better knowing we would not freeze.
Many people from warmer climates have migrated here, and do not know how to drive in the snow and on ice.
Thanks for the chat friend.

i too have an emergency stash of warm clothes, warm blanket, one of those metalic space blankets, those chemical hands and feet warmers, just in case. haven't needed them yet. but if i were to get stuck between work and home one night, it would be good to have those things.

and yes, i know what you mean about the driving, even people who were raised here seem to forget each year how to drive in the snow. so many accidents the first good snowfall we get.

my husband's degree is in atmospheric science / meteorology. he has taught me to appreciate the weather. plus we both love nature, all of it: the plants and animals, the weather, and even cosmic events like comets and meteor showers. i think this love of nature has taught us to appreciate the unexpected, love all the little surprises. rainbow nature really teaches good life lessons i think.

Hi Lon, about my plants? I have huge rolls of clear plastic that I can cover my larger gardens and lots of plastic pots to cover all my individual ones. My hangers I will have to bring inside for a couple days. I learned my lesson 4 years ago when we moved up here to the canyon by planting too early and lost all my flowers. I used to plant all my stuff in April in southern PA but up here we can have frost through June, and snow through May.

Covering up plants can help a lot. I can give you several degrees protection. The plastic will help better if you can prevent it from touching the plants. If it is cold enough, anywhere the plastic touches the plants, it might cause damage. Try to stake up the plastic if you can so that there is a air space between the plastic and the plant.

I hope I am making sense, This is one of those get up way too early because I hurt too much to stay in bed days. I woke up at 4, laid in bed till 5:30 and finally got up to serf the web. I'm trying to not wake up the family.

I hope your plants do OK, It's hard not to get attached to the little babies.

Sue,
Once again I had to scrape my windows of ice and snow!
But life goes on.
Some years ago, we had a science teacher come up to ou Church camp in the SawTooth Mountains in Idaho. He had the telescope set so that th kids could walk by see other "moons" and the rings around Saturn. I noticed a few of the kids bumped the telescope ever so slightly.
When I looked, all I could see was a blur of stars. Over a100 kids had walked by and just grunted, instead of telling him the scope and been moved!
Every flower and plant is precious here in Gillette. So we practically name them when they survive.

Michelle,
Yea, we could ah, Ice skate, lol!
Actually I usually don;'t wear a coat unless I am outside for a while. But I do want to start gardening! I am glad that your kids are close. We miss our kids a lot.

We have started mowing the grass, I always enjoy the smell of cut grass in the Spring..
