If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

starter is an unlsolved problem - in Romania producers do not put their starter name on the label - so i don't really know what i've used (anyway - each time a different producer as a starter - but same problems as result)

During my extensive international travels (one vacation to a few countries in western Europe in the summer of 2001...) I noticed more strains of bacteria in the store-bought yogurt than I was accustomed to. I think the additional culture was bifidus. So maybe it is more common in Romania too... could you contact the manufacturers and ask them what the cultures are?

i just buy it made ready to eat, greek style natural yogurt or european style yogurt from supermarket. then pop a pill full of bacteria.(probiotics) i cant even be bothered making beer, so yogurt making seems way to complicated.

Just tried Natren's probitics. Supposedly the best stuff you can get. Within a day I was back to having very bad pain and fatigue. I only had three doses. Everything is backing off again now that I have stopped.
Coincidence? Perhaps. But I will never take them again.

I also had a bad experience with Natren's probiotics and do not know if it was coincidence, but Jeff inherited a very healthy gut for a month (he as not nearly so much of a one man brass band, if you know what I mean!). At any rate, if I have a bad experience with any food/supplement the first time I try it, I have a hard time trying it again.
I take Udos brand probiotics and feel they work really well with my system. Unfortunately, they can be tricky to find.
Good luck.

I picked up Natren's last week - found a place that had a 2-week supply bottle - much more affordable to see how it would go. The second day my lips swelled up and got itchy, tongue swelling too. I took third days dose, then decided to stop it wondering if the natren's was the culprit - the only thing new i've had; Pollen is horrible right now, so maybe that's it. Lips didn't get worse after stopping, they've gradually, over the course of the week, gotten better. Could probiotics cause a reaction like this? I've never had this happen before. can't say if arthritis better or worse over such a short period.

Goodness, guys,
If Natren's is supposed to be the best that money can buy and you are having all these problems (even if some you are not positive about) then I really do wonder if I am better off not taking anything - supplements, vitamins, minerals or anything.
Goodness knows I eat enough green leafy veg, veg all all colours, anti-oxident berries, all meats, fish and dairy. I think I'm better off on me own, here.
I do keep trying to stay up-to-date with anything which could improve my health or supplement my diet - but there does not seem to me, to be any real substitute for a good diet and exercise...
When the side-effects out-weigh the benefits and you are paying into the bargain. It's just not worth it.
Take care everyone, Tink

Hello Finnari I have just been catching up on this post and read your reply: From Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine gottschall. Many probiotic/yoghurt companies are putting Inlulin/FOS (fructo-oligossaccharides) into there product. They are thought to feed "healthy bacteria". But they also feed Klebsiella. She even mentions this is implicated in AS. She did say Natren is against doing so. Inlulin is also known as Neosugar, alant starch, alantin, dahlin, helenin and diabetic sugar. So the definitive answer to my original question of "Do probiotics complement NSD" is NO! Thanks so much for finding that out for all our benefits, Finnari. I for one am suitably put off probiotic drinks after reading this. If something looks to good to be true.. and all that... Tink

The actual quote from Gottscall is this one:
"Do not use any product which contains FOS (fructooligosaccharides) . This form of starch (inulin) may feed harmfull bacteria as well as 'friendly" bacteria and will defeat the benefits of the diet,"
By the way, i found no mentioning of Klebsiella inside Gottschall book, in fact no mentioning of AS none so ever.
Also - there no mentioning of probiobitc suplements there - maybe except the suff with natural yoghurt. The only suplements she recomends are vitamins and minerals (and those depending on some variables).
Regarding the probiotics my answer would come after a series of questions like:
Did anyone with legitimate competences recomended me such thing? And if not, what was ones answer when i've asked about them? Did i asked anyone if i need then and what should i expect from getting them? Are there any side effects that i should know? Where can i read about such side effects (since is known that most of the suplements lack those kind of informations). Or i am just stuffing myself just because i've seen some comercial on TV about probiotic yoghurt?
