Donna,
It is so nice to hear of these girls having a normal life.

We have 2 that are grown and married and we have 4 grands and another on the way but our 2 still at home like the same. We go to church and they help in Bible hour, Tori has taught sunday school. They enjoy sports and we are big into family time and doing things with our kids.

It's wonderful to see how much you love these girls. Keep up the good job.

Lisa

Sadly, I fear that parents such as you, Lisa, and Donna are the exception, rather than the norm. These days, in too many families both parents must work, so too tired to be parents when they're home. Also, I think this trend toward being your kids' friends is just plain stupid. I'm sorry, kids need parents at home, not friends who are so afraid to upset their kids by giving them some discipline that they end up creating adults who think there are no consequences to their actions. Teenagers don't generally need help thinking there are no consequences, their brains haven't developed enough, and won't be developed enough until they are in their late 20s, to think about consequences. That's why actively-engaged parents are so important.

I truly appreciate hands-on parents such as the two of you and others here, whom I know are also active parents, rather than their kids 'friends'.

Warm hugs,

Kat

I'm not letting my girls get the HPV vaccine. At least not yet. I used to homeschool, but now I get to see how girls get through middle school. My sister had cervical cancer, but it was the more rare kind NOT related to HPV. Therefore, I'll be making sure my girls get regular exams and know about the family history. I'm not convinced of the efficacy of this vaccine.

What concerned me the most was the way it was being pushed by some health and government officials. I get suspicious when something is mandated like it was in some school districts and states. When things get pushed on the public like the way that they were pushing all parents to have their girls inoculated, I get worried. It was too much and too soon. There wasn't enough time to see what kind of side affects might come up.

I realy don't know if I should let my daughter get this or not.
When my eldest 2 where little they were not able to be vaccinated as normal as their biological father had severe reactions when he was a baby and I tended to get the disease after being immunised.

They were vaccinated when they were older (school age) but still cant have the whooping cough vax.
I just don't know.

As for dissipline, my mother complains I am too tough on my kids then on the other hand says how wonderful they are and that my sisters kids are running wild and she should be more like me.
So what does she want, good kids while being soft on them. Sorry doesnt work like that.
Anyway I do think my kids are wonderful and yet we are good friends also. I think it is about striking a balance of respect.

Kat,

you are so right, we go to church with about 700 people and Bill and I have always been hands on with the youth group, if teens are having issues with parents we want to work with the parents not against them so we have had teens come stay with us while trying to work issues out, we have where the parents are the issue not wanting the kids and we have one precious girl that basically lives with us every weekend to get out of her house. It makes me sad to see so many kids that are termed throw away when 9 times out of 10 the parents are the ones that lost control and then blame the kids.

I so understand that most families need a 2 income household but not at the expense of the kids and I know how hard it is to work a 10 or 12 hour day then have to come home cook, clean, help the kids with their work it is so exhausting.

I really think if parents dont get their heads on straight we are seeing a serious issue with todays youth. Spoiled, mouthy, think they are entitled to anything...when you think about these kids running the country some day. So many kids want to find the easy way out instead of putting a hard days work for a days pay, we have never seen anything like it.

Lon touched on it in his last post dealing with men that have gotten into things like drinking, drugs, prison and then when they realize its usually too late...

Thanks for the support it means alot in this day and age. I feel like we have been pretty lucky with our 4, with the 2 oldest grown, married and now families of their own I can say Bill and I couldnt be prouder of them and the choices they have made. Tori and Ethan seem to be following the same paths, hopefully Bill and I are guiding them in the right way showing them that they are the most importent things to us.

Kat, you would have been such an awesome Mom, you continually show that dealing with your precious nieces and your family, you wear your heart on your sleeve and that is not a bad thing. I am hoping that your nieces will take the advice and the love that you are offering as a lifeline.

Hugs,

Lisa

I think you are 100% right, don't let anyone or anything push you into doing something you dont feel good or right about, especailly where your most precious babies are concerned.

Hugs,

Lisa

Hi aussie,

I don't like to push my opinins on others so I would suggest reading up on it as much as you can and you making an informed decision based on what you feel right for your family.

Hugs,

Lisa

Hi Molly,

My daughter had the three shots last year and no problem. Just like the tens of thousands of other school girls over here in Aus.

You are always going to find someone who will have a reaction, it just depends on how hard you search the net!
