If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

wow Possi - Thank goodness Floyd took you in! Tell him I'm thankful for that! I've only had a spike like that immediately after childbirth - no idea why it happened then instead of DURING childbirth (you'd THINK all that pain and pushing and such . . . lol) but they medicated me and kicked everyone out and such. they never told me why it happened. Strokes scare me, my mom's had at least 2, maybe 3. I don't like them. At all. Don't do that, ok? They suck. *hug* Bridge

Goodness Possi
That must have been very scary for you and your husband. I hope the doctor can shed some light on what happened. I tried to read up a bit on sudden high blood pressure (with headache and nausea) advice was don't wait go straight to ER. You did just the right thing. Hope it doesn't happen to you again.
Take care

You are so right Lisa. Our bodies give us warning signs when things are wrong, unfortunately many of us ignore them. Kudos to Possi's hub for taking her to the ER.
A blood pressure that high is very alarming. Yes Nitro will drop it as it is a vasodilator it causes the blood vessels to relax and expand lessening the pressure inside them. I would follow the ER directions and see your PCP and get to the bottom it.
I'm glad that things turned out for the best.
Keep Kickin'AS Chris

Hi Joyce, Your blood presure issue brought back memories, and yes mine got high as yours. It was what got me onto blood presure meds. I found that as mine started rising as yours did, I progressively got more scared, which I believed caused it to continue to rise. I now take coversyl 4mgs, which seems to keep mine under control.
Glad your BP is back undercontrol. It's very frightening to think your heading for a stroke. Mine started to become uncontrolled when I had an attack of something or other in 2005. I believe my severe sleep apnea, was not controlled, and believe this was the cause of the rise of my blood pressure, or an Accute Porphyria attack which I haven't been diagnosed with yet. Doctors believe this a good possiblility (AIP and/or VP). VP because of genitic tie.
Hugs - Glad your home

Hi Possi,
I'm so glad you got to the ER.
Last year prior to diagnosis a PA started me on Prednisone whilst waiting for my first rheumy appt. I was taking a high dose (higher than prescribed, my bad). I got this terrible headache, could hear blood thumping in my ears, felt like my neck wanted to explode if the phone rang. My hubby was gone that week for work, but I ended up driving myself to the urgent care. Scary business for sure.
Take Care, Donette

You is scarin us Joyce. That was a spike and a half my friend. But glad yuou got to ER and got the event under control. Good. A cuff is handy to have around. Get the upper arm cuff, the wrist one is a waste of money. Have had high BP myself, with spikes. Worst spike was 220 / 110. Nursie almost dropped ! That was in hospital as well, for a pre-op assessment. Happened here as well, at the hospital, prior to that never-to-be forgotten gawd awful colonoscopy etc: 189 / 110 - nursie was aghast, but I told her not to be concerned, my BP would come down! No, not white coat syndrome, or it would *always happen when in hospital or seeing the doc. Just spiked. But my 'normal' is around 145 - 149 / 90 - 95. Your 'normal' sure is low. So, what a *huge spike. Scary. Take care -

Chris,
Yes that Nitro is mean stuff and it is made to work quickly!
If anyone has taken it then you know what I am talking about. When I was in the ER they brought me some and said hold it under your tongue...it burns that is the best way I can describe it...I hated it but understood why I needed to. They brought a second one and I reluctantly took it again, by the 3rd time I could not deal with it when they brought it I didn't put it under my tounge I swallowed it...BAD IDEA!..lol
I didn't think I would ever find anything as nasty as prednisone but nitro is it in my book.
With your history of being a firefighter/EMT is this a common med to try and stabilize someone until you can get them to the hospital?
I have known of a couple of older people taking it but don't know if it the same stuff they use in the hospital.
Hugs,
Lisa

Yes, Wendy, we thought the hospital was the place to be because everything I read says that every minute counts with stroke. That was one thing I wondered about with the aspirin if it was a bleeding stroke, it would make it worse but he was thinking about the heart attack. I don't know what the deal is but the rheumie has his nurse calling every other day and I see him this week. I am also glad I see the urologist this month. I just need some things checked out with my extremely low iron and my kidneys borderline functioning. I think the kidneys could have something to do with BP.
I appreciate everyone's concern.
Hugs. Possi
