Wow Donette,

You really don't look like you're eating very much. I worry that you're not getting enough fruits and vegies. I eat tons of leafy greens and I usually eat fruit twice a day. I try to vary the greens because I have a tendency to develop new food allergies if I eat the same food all the time so I vary between swiss chard, spinach, lettuce, collard greens and kale mostly. And I try to add parsley or cilantro occasionally to get added food/vitamins. Fruit is usually berries, grapes or cherries. Those seem the safest to me, especially in the winter. I haven't seen anyone having a problem with greens and encourage you to add more of those to your diet. We don't want you to wither away!

Annette

Thanks Donette

Yes healing and patience seem to go hand in hand. But I wish they'd hurry up!

Giggles,

I'll be OK for a while Annette. I have lost 20 lbs over the last 6 months, mostly since NSD, but I have a long way to go before I'm too thin smile

I ate a spinach/mixed greens salad today with hamburger on it (family was eating tacos). And I have been chowing on the raw carrots which help a ton with my digestion. My diet isn't stellar right now from a nutritional point of view, I'm just trying to scale everything back to understand what causes flaring in me. Thanks for the reminder though, I do have some frozen berries and I believe berries are low in sugar, right? I'm still watching out for candidiasis.

Hee hee, wither away. That's a good one. floor

Hello! I have been reading this thread (and the rest of the boards) for a while now... trying to get a handle on this NSD so I can help my husband feel better. Thanks so much for all the help. I love this thread because it's a great to see what people are eating... really eating. We started the diet on Saturday.... I think we are doing ok... I have to buy the iodine so I can be sure. I have some questions though.... the first are concerning the recipes from Elena's Pantry... I want to make some special "treats" for my husband to take with him to work.. are the muffins etc madew/ almond and / or coconut flour ok? We are following the Carol Sinclair book... trying to eliminate all foods from steps 1 and 2 as a beginning. Which leads to my next question.... can he really NOT eat cooked vegetables? Thanks in advance for your help. So great to find a place like this. Hail hail the Internet. OH! .... and what about DAIRY?

Hey Donette - watch out for the carrots, they're starchy - i've never tested them but have just heard they're a no-no, so maybe you can handle them raw. oh how i miss roasted root vegetables:(

Susan - welcome, and your husband is lucky to have someone supporting him in the diet. I do better with coconut flour - too many almonds do a number on me and i like the flavor much better. I haven't checked out all recipes on elena's pantry but don't do gluten free ones that use other flours, like rice and bean flours. And baking powder is starchy - kiwi has the substitute that's baking soda and cream of tartar. -

I do better without dairy, and limiting sugar. can't answer the veggie question - i still eat them cooked, but still have pain. I would like to try going meat and all raw non-starchy vegs for couple of weeks, just don't have the willpower. If my tramadol ran out, however, that would be the first thing i'd do!
good luck, mary cay

Susan,
It can depend on the vegetable, and also where you are... if you're unsure, the best way to check is to steam the vege, and then test it with iodine.
Many folk around here find that they do better when they eliminate dairy as well. But, you need to keep in mind that this is no one size fits all diet. Best thing to do is to keep a food/symptom diary to track progress, and this may help you pin point any triggers for your hubby.
Elena's Pantry has some great ideas for treats, and there are also lots for you to try in the recipe thread. Almond and coconut flours can help fill you up and keep weight stable. Also great for feeling not so deprived....

All the best, and don't be afraid to ask away! Do get your hands on some iodine soon though. Testing things is the only way to be sure that starch isn't sneaking its way through! smile

Hey Mary Cay,

I thought I read raw carrots were ok because cooking them released their starch. Eating them raw, I thought they just sort of passed through you. But I think that was a Cayce reading, I read so much I'm not sure where it came from.
I'm also not pain free yet either, so you are right in that I better be more careful.

Hey Susan,

Welcome! Your hubby is so lucky to have you. I keep wishing for a magic Genie jar or a million bucks so I could hire a personal chef! yes

I have all your same questions, so I'm glad you asked!

Thanks MCM and KURUMI...

I will get the iodine tomorrow.

I made the "power bars" today and Dan loved them. They are very easy to do, once you assemble the stuff. They are also high in fat content which is a good thing, because he's already skinny and I have fears of him fading away to nothing on this diet. (I, alas, do NOT have this problem!) I need to get the baking powder replacement so I can make him the muffins or pancakes. I think that will make him happy and make him feel more full than he has for the past couple of days.

I have high hopes for this diet. It just makes such sense to me.
