thanks for the article. hope this time it is successful without the problems in the past (when a few children died unexpectedly). but i think scientists have been hopeful all along or they wouldn't have kept trying. i do think, or at least hope, its only a matter of time.

Perhaps superhero spandex pants then? lol

Seriously, that's some pretty cool research. And a little disturbing. But mostly pretty cool if it can be used for ethical medical reasons. smile

i think with most new medical advances, there's always the discussion of ethical use. saw the debate back when things like human insulin were first being produced by "genetic engineering", then the discussion of stem cell research, etc. i think its always good to consider the ethical questions, but not a reason to not go forward with something that will save lives and increase quality of life (not that anyone here is suggesting that). its not the technology but how we choose to use it. and in each case i've seen along the way, the fears rarely pan out, IMO.

Sue, you always put it into words so well. It's amazing to think how far we've come in just a few decades, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next few. Now that more stem cell research is being allowed, I know that medical advances are going to happen in leaps and bounds, and I'm sure us ASers will benefit too. It gives me great hope for the future. My "disturbing" comment was just to the idea in that article that people would abuse such research for the purpose of engineering athletes for competition - I had visions of less-ethical countries or people strongly encouraging their athletes to submit themselves to this kind of stuff when it hasn't been perfected, then getting sick from it, potentially. Let's hope that never happens.
I'm a big supporter of this kind of research though! Very exciting. smile

LOL!!!

I will put some time into a superhero outfit. Let me think of a few designs. Should have some time before the technology is ready for mass consumption. LOL!

Maybe spandex pants on my female superhero sidekick. Or a catsuit. Spandex pants on a man is rather disturbing in my opinion. LOL!
