Hi Kat

I am thinking, the best person to train a dog for my needs would be me. I am not sure what hurtles I will need to jump to get this dog to be licensed. Would I have to go trough the lions club, and their courses to train this dog. Training a dog would surely take my mind off of my pain, keep me from depression.

Also thinking about take an ASL course, which I would use to train this puppy. Too many thoughts running through my head.

Hi Snowshoe, you have gave me an idea. If no one can train a dog to meet my needs, then why don't I, while I still can.

I am looking again into who can best start me on the road to training my puppy, and how to get my puppy registered as a service dog.

I am also thinking of taking a course in American Sign Language, which I would use to train the puppy. My hearing is problematic, but I am not deaf not yet. I will never be able to use hearing aides because of my Auditory Processing Disorder, and Hyperacusis.

My PsA is problematic most times (because can't have meds for pain, or depression), and there is times I can't pick things off the floor. I can still open doors and turn lights on and off. I have severe problem dealing with fire alarms, and the main reason for me going after a service dog. When I had my Kaylagirl, she help me remain calm, and to focus. She let me know when the phone rang, when someone was at the door.

Well most times I can't find the phone anymore (maybe should turn sound on - but can't handle the noise). I go right away into a panic attack, when firealarm goes off. If someone knocks on my door, it doesn't get answered because I don't hear them knock.

I am again looking into getting a golden retreiver.

Possi, I so hope you get your service dog. If anyone should have a service dog it's you. Here in Canada, there are so many hurtles but, I am now thinking - if I purchase my own dog - train it following their criteria - to meet my needs - why should there be a problem.

Over the weekend I am going to make a game plan, and start towards getting my puppy (service dog).

Hi Jewelz

If I don't get positive results, when I approach The Lions Club in Oakville about purchasing/training my own service dog. Then your idea seems to be about the own other option I may have.

I may need a spokes person(s) - maybe I could hit Kit, or Mig up they, so know how to get things done when approaching the public. I am hoping I don't have to go this way.

Hi Dow,

I am giving thought to train my own Service dog. I just need to know if I can get support from the Lions Club here in Ontario, and will I be able to get it licensed after I get it trained. These are only some questions. Over the weekend, I am making up a game plan and present it to the Lions Club.

Dow, thanks for the encouragement - many of the people who provide service dogs use the Golden retriever - I always wanted a golden retreiver - Also been told they are easy to train.
