If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Shauna, He said that I shouldn't be concerned with my kidneys if I'm getting enough vegetables. I told him I wasn't eating any high-carbohydrate vegetables, and he re-iterated his view that he believes it's musco-skeletal related (my GP suspects that as well). I've had two kidney panels done within the last month as well as one ultrasound and they all come up negative. That being said, I think I read somewhere that the kidney test won't turn positive until you they're only functioning at around 25%. So even though all the tests are OK, I think I should trust my intuition and re-evaluate to make sure I'm getting enough non-starchy carbs. I know a couple of other people follow Bee's candida protocol, and according to her guidelines, it's possible that in the initial months of the diet, my carb intake was on the low side (and my protein consumption was ridiculously high) and I'm just dealing with residual fall-out from that poor decision. http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/foods8.phpSo, while my kidneys have been slightly better, I think there's still something going on, and will need to revisit every aspect about my diet to make sure I'm not creating more problems. Sigh... If it's not one thing, it's another... I haven't had my cholesterol measured since the early days of the flare. It was on the cusp of being high. What oils do you cook with? If you use any hyrdogenated oils, maybe that's more of a culprit to your cholesterol than your intake of eggs and fish oil. I'm sure others can provide additional thoughts there. Freddie

Awesome news Darrel!
I find it impressive that the rheumy is open minded enough to read Dr. Ebringer's work. Hopefully that will help future spondy patients he deals with.
Here's to you kicking away that last 10% of your pain!!!

Shauna,
My cholesterol was a little on the high side too last time I got checked but my ratio was excellent. Apparently the ratio is good indicator of your how risk you are. I figure it's because I eat alot of good fats as well as animal fats so it balances out. So I don't think you need to cut back on the fish oil. I think that would improve your overall numbers.

My good cholesterol was great, but the bad a little on the high side. Which, given that I'm eating more meat than I used to is not surprising. However, the ratio between the two is fine. My doc indicated that the best way of getting it down is exercise, activity sustained for at least 30min several times a week. Which is something that I can do, but maybe more of a challenge for those in flare. She had used this technique herself with success with no change in diet.

"So keep on doing what you're doing.". That's exactly what my rheumy says to me. She even asked me if I knew other diets to other kinds of bones diseases. It's almost funny.

Hi Bren, When i started NSD my ESR was 95. I went very strict NSD, at the time i did not know what had starch and what did not so i ended up on a bacon and egg diet on the fourth day i was convinced. Since then we now have Carol Sinclairs book and lots of diet tips here, as well as the iodine test. Hang in there. George
