stretching is good because it extends the spine and is more gentle. As long as you have no fusion this will help you to prevent it.I used to hang from door frames also I would stand facing the wall with my arms straight up and stretch. If you lay flat on the floor on your back for 20 mins and then on your front for 20 mins this helps you to keep your posture. You said about breathing If you get a towel and roll it up long ways and put it around your chest under your armpits tightly and breath against it you will keep movements in your rib cage.

Hi Lynn! Glad we could help. The cost will depend on the exact treatment you need. There is a lot of stuff out there with even better stuff coming soon. I see a rheumatologist twice a year and do my pt exercises from home. The cost for me is low now. I was on celebrex and plaquenil for 18 months and that is expensive. Plaquenil is a nice drug that is fairly cheap. Celebrex is expensive.

Hi Lynne, welcome to kickas
All of your questions have many answers. Cost depends on many variables like, insurance?, where you live, what docs you will need to see. Some need very little care, 2 times a year with a rheumy, and many need a lot of constant visits to Rheumys, GP's, surgeons etc. Pain? Some are lucky enough to get by with general NSAIDS, others have a mutitude of medications. So you see there is a huge variance from one person to another. You will meet all different levels of AS here and learn a lot.

Lynne

The only advice I have for you is to get some health insurance, like now. Once you are Diagnosed it will be extremely hard for you to get insurance and it will come at a higher cost and a period of time where they will not pay for pre-existing conditions; if they ever pay for pre-existing conditions. You cannot afford to be without health insurance.

I wish you good health.
