I am so sorry you are having to go through this. We had to deal with it when my hubby was caught in the oil industry downsizing at an age that was not good for finding another job except for low paying ones. This was 6 years after I had to go on disability. Just to encourage you, we have never missed a meal or a payment and life does go on. I know right now it is hard to see that it will but God is Good and true to His word and He will take care of you. Hugs and Blessings. Possi

Oh Karen, I'm so sorry! Academia is really unfair sometimes and the rules just don't make sense. In the past, it's driven me mad that seniority doesn't seem to count for anything, and a few very good professors I knew had to move on. Don't worry about your kids, there are always student loans. They suck, but that's what they're there for. There are alot of students out there who move away from home, and have to support themselves 100% on their own for 10 years (hmmm... like me?), and will end up with jobs that will enable them to pay off debts. I just hope you guys can find a way to stay in your home, and not have to move cities....

Thanks for the hugs and encouragement, Possi. You know, it's not the money issues that worry me so much. It's all of the other losses.

The kids will survive somehow. I just really, really don't want to move again. Moving totally sucks and I've done it far too often.

You are so right - moving sucks - big time - even when it's under good circumstances it's stressful!
And there is definitely something wrong with the system when employers don't value hardworking, dependable, loyal employees.
It seems to be a common occurrence these days, unfortunately.
I hope that somewhere in all of this a silver lining emerges for you and your family.

I'm very grateful that I logged on and looked back a bit to catch up...but very sorry to hear this news. I can only imagine. I am very sorry you've got to go through this. I can imagine how stressed out my husband would be if he lost his job. Not eating, not sleeping--your poor husband. But I feel so badly for you and the kids, too. Please let me know how it goes, and see what this year brings. I hope it will bring answers and good news.
