If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Yes, this lame duck year is going to be hard on my husband. In the midst of his anger, he'll have to do his best, knowing he needs good recommendations to get a new job.
Still kickin'

Dow, He'll definitely look in the area, but the chances of him getting a job here are extremely slim.
Enrollment is up here too. They'll hire someone to replace him. It sucks.
I'm questioning Mayo, not because of health insurance or finances, but because we will most likely be getting new health insurance in a year and a half. If Mayo diagnoses me with something, then will I have a pre-existing condition that the new insurance can refuse to cover? If that's true, then it may be in my best interests not to go to Mayo. I need to get more information on this.

Thanks for the hugs, Lisa.
The staying on more year thing is standard in academia. It's too late to look for a job for this fall in April. Most hiring is done earlier in the year. It's actually considerate of them to let us stay on; David will start looking for a job in late fall/early winter for fall of 2010. That's when most hiring is done for universities.
Keep those fingers crossed!

sending hugs & prayers as you go thru this difficult time! God will make a way for you all.
I understand your trepidation towards moving & starting over... we've moved 16 times since 1995 btwn NC, MN & MI! one place we lived 4 years, and our current home is nearing 3 years... so moving has become a part of life for us.

Karen, Sorry to hear you are having a hard time. Although it stinks that he is losing his job, and I am sure there is frustration and hurt--you won't be without his income and he'll have a whole year to find something else. It sounds like you really truly love your job/situation/area, so maybe he can find something else that "pays the bills" in your area. It may be hard--but you have a whole year. And maybe the person who is irate can have an impact. Things sometimes change, and I hope for your sake somehow he gets to keep his current job. Or, I hope that within a year he can find something else in your area so you can stay put and your high schooler won't have to start over. Be sad and angry for a bit, then put it behind you...you never know what might work out. Stay positive, even though it is tough. The economy has made many (including myself) have to "press the reset button" and figure out/plan a new strategy. Plans and dreams and expectations have been put on hold...and you aren't alone. Hope you both feel better really soon.

just thought of something, My mom lost her job due to the recession last year. She was unemployed for 6 months and nearly went out of her head with despair, we all did. She now has a job that suits her way more than the last one and has changed her whole career path and finally got out of her depression which had plagued her for years.
Sometimes you just never know what will happen and things look so scary when you look ahead and then all of a sudden its behind you and you wonder what you found so scary.

karen,
i'm so sorry. i know the process all too well. the whole tenure process really needs to be revamped. often its more political than anything else, at least from what i've seen. the job is hard enough itself without having to go through all of this. if people with some power there are irate, could he appeal the decision? you don't need to answer me on that, and i certainly wouldn't decide anything until the emotional shock has subsided. i also don't know if i'd want to stay at a place that treated me like that. that's why i left the first university i was at before the tenure decision. i wasn't sure if i'd get tenure and the clincher was that i wasn't sure i'd want to be there even if i did get it, so i moved before it ever became an issue. i do know someone who appealed the decision because it seemed unfair, and she won, so it is possible to have the decisions reversed. anyway, the whole thing is terrible, and david, and you, and your family are in my prayers. just try not to think too much right now.

I'm sorry to hear this news. It will work out.
Sometimes I think my body is an inflammation nation.
AS for 20 years HLAb27+, i think there was talk a negative result at later date, but never confirmed. Have been on many different anti- inflammatory drugs (naproxen to arthrotec to vimovo). Now off all prescription meds except occasional advil or tylenol. Don't underestimate the power of icing (I bought the biggest ice pack i could find and it is good at numbing pain). Aaron

Karen, I'm sorry to learn of this news. I hope something turns in you and your husband's favor soon.
Kind Regards, Jay
