Hi Sue,
No, it doesn't feel like muscle spasms, but when I palpate the cartilage in the front of my neck, I can find some tender points. Now that I think about it, those tender points have been there for several weeks. When I first noticed them, I thought I had some swollen glands and the beginning of an infection.

That "nothing systemically wrong" was totally sarcastic.

I like the muscle relaxant idea at the dentist, though. I need some follow-up work done, so maybe I'll take a flexeril before I go.

I didn't know about the freaking joint in the larynx either. Just last week, I was thinking about all the joints which have been affected in me in the last three years and I came to the conclusion that the only unaffected ones are my fingers, toes, thoracic and lumbar spine. Every other joint has had issues at one time or another. Silly me, why didn't I consider the cricoarytenoid joint? Turns out arthritis there is quite common in RA.

Ouch! Passing out and breaking the jaw doesn't sound so good!

No, I don't want to lose my jaw or my throat. They're both pretty essential, aren't they?

Wow, I thought I hurt in every place that moves but I haven't had that one.

I guess I have to amend my description to "almost everything that moves".

I'm hoping you and your doctors, etc. can get this worked out so you can get back to dancing and singing your heart out!

On the advice of many of the people who responded to me, I called my doctor today only to find out she is on maternity leave. The nurse called the doc at home who told me to schedule with her on-call doctors so I did.

I assumed I was going to see a doctor, but much to my dismay, I got a nurse practicioner. I have nothing against nurse practicioners, but I don't think this is a simple sore throat and I wanted a doctor to look at it. The visit was pretty useless. The nurse practicioner cultured me for strep - it was negative- and told me I have a scratchy throat which should get better in a couple of weeks. She felt my TMJs and made no comment on them.

That's it. I have to admit I was crying by the time I got to my car. I'm just so frustrated with beating my head against the wall with the medical profession.

I guess I wait and see whether I get better.... or call an ENT.... or call my dentist...or crawl into bed and stay there for a year...

Man-o-man, the over regulation of doctors leads to the absence of the same. I am SO VERY sorry you had to go through that!!

This is the reason I personally don't go AT ALL unless I am dying. Otherwise, I typically end up in tears and feeling like I am either invisible or an idiot. Hey, why don't you move to Arizona (like Megan) and we will all lie in the sun and bake our pains away!

Awww, Karen...I'm so sorry! What a drag. I honestly thought you'd get some help.
I can't believe that after dealing with this already for several weeks that you would be told to go home and wait a few more weeks. This just doesn't sound like a regular sore throat.

Yup, we do need more good doctors and I should have seen a doctor today.

I'm all for the lying in the sun thing. Let's go for it!
