Hi all,

I was wondering if we could help this little guy out. His wish is to get as many Birthday Cards as he can from all over the world so I thought I would ask our Great KA family to help him see his dream come true.

Thanks John

Here is his story.

Name: Shane
Age: 7
Diagnosis: A.L.L. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Likes: all sports, building things, video games
Dislikes: being in the hospital for long periods of time
Favorite thing in the whole world: Lego

Birthday Cards for Shane
Have you ever wished that something you did could make a major difference in someone's life? Well here's your chance! KISS FM (a local radio station ) wants you to know about Shane, a soon to be 8 year old - battling Leukemia at CHEO. ( a Childrens Hoapital ) You can join Shane's battle with a simple Birthday Card. It may seem like an overly-simplistic gesture, but to Shane, it would mean the world.

Simply mail a birthday card to:

Aww that's cute. I might just have to forward this to some friends. One question first though - do you happen to know when his birthday is? Just so I don't start one of those forwards that goes on for years.

I am looking into the month and will let you know as soon as I find out. I think it is March or it could be May. Thanks for asking.

John

Count me in, as soon you can get the Birthday month. I hate hearing about little kids with terrible diseases and if he wants B-Day cards from all over the World I'm willing to send one or two or three.

And, in case anyone is skeptical that this is one of the fake "send as many cards as possible" requests that go around the net all the time now, rest assured this one is the real deal. This radio station is in John's hometown, and the whole story is on the station's web page ( KISS-FM homepage). So, let's do what we can to help this nice kid out, AS kickers!

As for when his birthday actually is, the site doesn't say, it just says that he is "soon to turn 8." Here is some more information about Shane that was on the website of the TLP Foundation, another charitable organization that is helping out Shane and his family. This really is hearbreaking to read when you find out how close he was to completing his chemo treatment plan, although there is very good news too:

"At almost 5 years old Shane was diagnosed with A.L.L. After 1 month into the treatment he was in early remission, meaning there were no cancer cells in his blood. Shane's family was very pleased with the early results, but his protocol called for 130 weeks of treatment. Then on July 6th, 2006 Shane relapsed after completing 108 of the 130 weeks. It was a shock to everyone including his doctors. Shane may have to undergo a bone marrow transplant down the road, but the good thing is that his brother Jacob is a match. Presently, there is no sign of cancer in Shane's system since relapsing."

Thanks Brad,

I was going to post the info but I guess I got sidetracked and forgot. Thanks for helping out with this. I just hope we here at KA can all come together and send out as many cards to this little guy as we can and make his dream come true.

John
