I got my script for enbrel today. As soon as the pharmacist we know is working, we are taking it in> It looks as though my insurance will only cover half of the cost. What is the cost these days in the US? I couldn't afford it a few years ago when this was last discussed about as a treatment. I have seen many people mention enliven. Should I sign up for this? Or is this what my dr.'s assistant does if my insurance doesnt cover it? I'm a newbie to all this and definitely a little nervous about it. Any advice, stories, things you think I should know, please share them all and if you don't feel like posting it publicly please feel free to PM. I guess I'm reaching out in need of some support from some other A.S.er's.

ENLIVEN services is the amgen/wyeth educational 'front' organization...they provide education and
have a nifty program to brow-beat insurance companies into covering your med and helping your doctor
write the kind of stuff to support your application for coverage...education for you, your insuance co, and doctor.

enliven services...google or 1-888-4EN-BREL

the ENCOURAGE FOUNDATION is their 'charitable foundation' providing funding for therapy and info
on grants, state programs and other means short of robbery for getting the goop. (these guys are a little messed up)

best of luck

I have a call in to them. Hopefully they will brow-beat my insurance company left and right.

Marnie, how did you get your insurance company to finally ok the Enbrel? I'm struggling over here. (But Lori is giving me great ideas on how to deal with this!)

i actually don't know if they will cover it. I will find out either today or tomorrow. They have denied me once already, 2 or 3 years ago (I can't remember too much from then cuz I was on oxycontins) so I'm hoping that that will help along with the fact that I went up a level in coverage and it says on my card I'm SUPPOSED to only pay 10 bucks for every prescription. I'll let you know what happens when I get the word.

Marnie,

Check out the other stuff in Financial Assistance with Meds in the AS Pharmacy forum.

I needed help getting my Enbrel as my insurance company says I have to pay for everything first and then get reimbursed. Even if I could do that, I still could not pay the Enbrel copays. So I got 800MedExpress to help.

Don't give up, there is more than one way to get Enbrel!!

Take care and keep us posted!
Holly

PS ENLIVEN put me in touch with a number of agencies in order to help me. They are really great. Used the 800 number ALOT when I first started taking Enbrel, like every time I took a shot for a month) LMAO!!

Cristina,

I may be able to help you too. PM me your health care provider info. Like who it is, not anything personal.

I will see what I have in my notes that may help you. I fought this too as Enbrel was not "oked" for AS by my ins co so I had to persuade them after the FDA approved it for AS.

Take care!
Holly

Ok, so now, I've been approved by my private insurance to pay only 800 dollars a month for my enbrel! HOw wonderful of them! Encourage says I'm not qualified, neither has any of the toher phone numbers I've called. I have faith that something just might work out this time, but i might have to try harder or something. LMAO. One lady told me there was no money for poeple with A.S. at encourage righ tnow.

She said to keep checking back so I probably will call every other week or something.
