If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hello to all, I have been reading all kinds of info about the different diets & quite frankly I am very confused & have brain drain(which is not uncommon for me)but I need help understanding all this. This disease is crippling every part of my body & every part of my life. I have been on every type of med they prescribe except intravenous-which I have been seriously considering. Although my Rheumy suggests that I wait until I am under less stress in my life. However, I hate drugs! I think most of them are poison. But I am beyond desperate. I'd much rather only eat apples everyday for the rest of my life than take poison if that would help. Anyway, I've known for years that food makes me worse-MUCH worse. So, I don't eat very much at all & when I do I pay dearly!!!!I am 5'7" and weigh 110lbs.I have slowly lost over past ten yrs. I now look like a skeleton. Blaa! Blaa! Blaaaa! Anyway, from what I've read I'm thinking I could fast for 24 hrs. (I'd like to do more but can't afford to lose to much more weight)Eat apples for 24 hrs. and then start the NO Starch diet for a wk. Does this sound like a sane plan? Do I have the wrong idea totally? I don't want my attempt to fail because of something I did wrong. I don't like to get myself overly optimistic but I am hoping & praying that this helps me so I can start on an upward spiral. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Peace, Tam

Or you could do the slow version where you replace one meal at a time with a very low/no starch version, which for me was easier, as I was eating so much bread and cereal crap, so it takes about 3 or 4 days to transition. Now I can do short fasts if I want, but before my metabolism kicked over into fat burning it would have been much harder.

Why only a week? think about the day after. You might not notice a change at first. It took me 2 months. Best to you, Oded.

Because of thoughts of the future they forget the present, therefore not living for the present, nor for the future, and while living like they'll never die, they die like they've never lived.

Tam,
I don't want my attempt to fail because of something I did wrong. - don't worry yourself thinking everything has to be done in some perfect way right from the off. As wind rider says take it steady, give it time, let new eating habits develop. As for your weight, eat plenty of animal fats if you can.
'Then you should say what you mean,' the March Hare went on. 'I do,' Alice hastily replied; 'at least - at least I mean what I say - that's the same thing , you know.' 'Not the same thing a bit!' said the Hatter.

Hi Tamaroo
Good to hear. Try not to panic, I feel a hint of desperation in your tone.
I more or less like Oded started about 3 months ago and have done it slightly differently but am having similar results. Only in the last 2 weeks have I been able to stop taking drugs. It takes time and I know that there are rocky roads that are yet to be encountered. The drugs are not a forgotten part of my past but hopefully one day they will be.
I like you was desperate when I started the diet but after a while you simply get used to the situation and you can start to enjoy it.
A week won't do any benefit in my short experience and to be honest I am setting myself up for a lifestyle change.
I don't know about fasting and apples (I intend to find out) but from what I can gather these shouldn't be mixed at around the same time as they perform different functions and one might impede the other. But I don't know, I hope somebody else can help you there.
If I were you I would just get going on the NSD and if you can, always be prepared: always have something in the fridge that you can eat- these have been my errors. It'll be tricky to begin with but after a while you'll enjoy it and maybe a smile will start to creep onto your face.
All the luck in the world be with you
Fergus

Hi Tam,
Yes... this can be all very confusing, but if the diet works for you a worthwhile endeavor. Do not look at it as a test and feel pressured to get it correct immediately... we all have stumbled along the way at one point.
If your frustrated bring your questions to the group there.
Take care,
Tim

Took me a minute to figure out you slotted this response under the wrong person...
Mental trick some of us have to start something is to break it up into little manageable segments of time phases.

Yes, that's me I too eat alot of cereals, grains but also sugar. So I will try that. I don't like eating alot of meat and there doesn't seem to be much fat in the diet. I don't have any fat to burn. Did you lose alot of weight when you first started?

Thanks fergus I was having a REAL bad day and can really be a spaz when I get in that head space. I have alot of people who depend on me-alot of responsibilities & no one really to lean on at all. I am usually strong & optimistic. Thanks for your advice esp. for reminding me about running out of things-it would then be so easy to grab anything to munch on. I am planning on starting next week so I can stock up!
