Hi
Sorry to hear u r havin a lot of pain and probs with ur hip.
Forgive me if i am havin yet another blonde moment here but what exactly is so scary about the meds u have listed. Is it that bad to have a hip replacement? I sorry i not meaning b funny or anything i just not understanding, but then again i pretty fogged with meds rite now.
I deffo understand where u r coming from about being so yound and thigs happening all of a sudden, that is pretty scary, i wish i knew the answer to that one but i am afraid i dont. You r also having the same scary thoughts about work as me i suspect, again i really wish i knew the answer to it, to help u not b so scared.
You r in my thoughts and i very much hope ur hip calms down soon, at least that would ease some of the scary things.

take care
heather

Mike,

Hiya do n't worry about it too much it can take alot of active inflammtion to do damamge. Remember it is really a soft tissue condition .....enthesitis and not a bone muncher.

MTX is not such a big deal hardly notice the downsides of it, the typical dose with a biological is 7.5mg your liver probably wo n't notice it....but enough to slow down your immune system.

The areas MTX helps with peripherals, lower back SI's hips etc.....might be better than having to pulse steroids and risk bone density issues later.

Also you might want to review your lifestyle....seats, bed, diet exercise see of there is anything irritating you.

Good Luck!

Hey guys, thanks for all your support.

To answer your questions: yes, I am on ENBREL. I had been completely asymptomatic for almost 2 years.

My rheumatologist recommend ARAVA today as a possible long-term solution. Has anyone taken it?

How well does it work? Does it make you *feel* better? (Less fatigue?) Is it better than MTX with the anemia? Can you drink (moderately) on ARAVA?

Yes, AVN can be caused by predisone use...but lots of it over a period of time.

They thought my son had it at one point. Same thing, hip, groin area was painful....Thankfully, it was AS, not AVN...

Hey, does it feel like your hip socket, or your sacro joints where your spine connects?? I've had pain in hip sockets as well as sacro, and knees, and ankles...but in never is symmetrical...always one side or the other, which throws off your balance...

What are you taking again? What meds...

Peace
Hang in there!!

Hey, Linc and Sassy.

I was on ENBREL only. The pain is in my hip socket, but now with the prednisone it's stopped there. It's now over on the trochanter...er...that nobby bony part that sticks out the side of your hip and it's muscle twinges. So it's getting a bit better with the prednisone.

I hope ARAVA is the answer. I almost feel like I'd just like to get the total hip done and get it over and done-with. I live in New York. I need to be able to walk.

Lori,

I believe Cheryl had to come off due to liver if I recall.. I think she then went to Enbrel. I could be wrong.... memory is not a steel trap any longer

What time do the Patriots play this weekend?

Hello,
I have a hard time excepting this disease. I have read and read about this ugly thing that is now a big part of my daily life. There are two componets of this disease the first is the pain, the second and maybe the worst the worry of not knowing whats to come. What will it cost me in my life to live with this thing? my marriage? my home? my livelyhood? my sanity? this thing that is my new friend.
If you read about the treatments they are so riddled with terrible side effects the illness seems better than the medicine. I read a very good book about inflammation and it really help me understand this thing much better, I recomend everyone read it, it's called "the Inflammation Syndrome" by Jack Challem. I hope you feel better, this can be very depressing. This book has helped me more than you know.I hope u feel better soooon.

With every season comes new change.

Hey Mike, don't give up on your hip too quickly. Nearly 30 years ago I looked at an X ray of my left hip and wondered how I could be still walking 'cos it sure wasn't that ball and socket arrangement you see in your text books. But walking, swimming and physio has kept it going and it may do for you. Guess you are doing plenty of the former and hopefully will find time for the other two.

'Then you should say what you mean,' the March Hare went on. 'I do,' Alice hastily replied; 'at least - at least I mean what I say - that's the same thing , you know.' 'Not the same thing a bit!' said the Hatter.
