Surely there's a good explanation, but at this point I'm completely boggled. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo confused. Has anyone had this happen before? I took my methadone prescription to the pharmacy today for my refill (actually, three pharmacies... the first two didn't have it in stock), and after waiting for the LONGEST TIME without any explanation (they had the rx a good 45 minutes or more), the pharmacist finally called me up to the counter to tell me the doctor doesn't exist. Huh??? The medical license number doesn't exist in the state of Florida. There is no record of his name. The pharmacy even called the hospital to ask... but they didn't recognize the doctor either.

This is one of those big rehab clinics where the doctor I see... well... I really don't see her. I saw her once, and only because I demanded; but then, because she is so important and special and in so much demand and doing research, you see an underling of sorts (nurse practitioner or another dr) and she supposedly oversees your case from afar. I end up seeing someone different almost every time. Whatever, as long as I get my prescriptions. But , how can an unlicensed "doctor" be working at a big rehab clinic at a major hospital in a large, metropolitan area?! I don't get it. It's not like he put on a white coat and snuck in off the street... he interacted with all the other nurses and doctors I'm familiar with. Surely there's some good explanation, right? Anyone???

In short, my prescription is invalid, null and void, useless. Even if I call first thing Monday morning, there is no way a new prescription can be sent to me by the time I run out on Tuesday afternoon. It's a two hour trip each way to go get it on the bus--I don't have that kind of time in the final days of trying to wrap up my thesis. Wednesday morning I have my Masters Thesis defense. ( It's gonna happen! I'm gonna graduate!!! ). I'm scared to death of the defense WITH pain meds. A thesis defense WITHOUT my drugs? I don't think so... Oh dear.

That doesn't make alot of sense,

I would have called the rehab clinic back asap and told them what happened and found out what is going on.

Possibly could have gotten his license # wrong, that happened to me once and I said "I DON"T THINK SO"

The rehab center has to know him and then could confer to get your script filled.

Let us know what happens,

Lisa

Wow.
I swear, if I lived in Florida, I'd drive you anywhere in the next 2 days just so I could try to track down the boobies who screwed THIS up, and I wouldn't stop until I found them.
Okay, if you have seen this dr. person with your own eyes, he/ she exists. You got the prescription before, so he/she existed previously. You've got the little pill bottle (or whatever) with the label and the names.( Did you save the old bottle or the old paperwork for comparison?) Now the pharmacy is claiming the dr. person does not exist.

This leaves us several options to consider:

Space and time warp continuum. Not likely.

The doctor died. Maybe.

The doctor disapeared suddenly and mysteriously. (been there, and I FOUND the *****'s new office...you can run, but you cannot hide)

The doctor disapeared suddenly and mysteriously because he/she did something wrong, got his/her medical license suspended, was working as a fill in, and the rehab clinic is now pretending they never heard of he/she in the hope that no one will notice. Could be.

Somewhere in the great cyber chain of numbers and electrons pulsing thru computers guided by human fingers, somebody screwed up the number of the doctor or the prescription, or the name of the hospital, and the pharmacy is pretending this has not happened.

Your prescription is not null and void, if it's a refill, somebody in the chain just screwed up again. You just have to track down the culprit. But you are going to have to make beaucoup phone calls. My guess is the pharmacy screwed up. Surely you can plug this imaginary doctor's name into a search engine on the internet along with the hospital or medical group's name, and dig him up that way? Is he/she listed in the phone book? They have internet phone book listings.

But time, being of the essence, call another pharmacy and ask about his number and name and see if you get the same story. If so, sigh, you're going to have to call the clinic...sigh.

you're gonna be so happy to get out of florida...even if you get snow in boston.

I'd get on the phone monday am...and tell them to have someone safehand deliver the correct paperwork to you
that very day...these pain folks have been jerks since the day you first saw them.

call the state of florida after you call them and inform the state that a non doctor is writing scripts for
class one narcotics...oh...and have your lawyer call them, 'they started you on this med and are responsible
for your maintainence'- that's the deal with pain mgt, right?...tell 'em you'll sue for malpractice.

you dan't have to worry about four hours travel with no car to corret yet another mistakeof theirs.

grrrrrrr...i'll growl at them too

Sounds like something out of a movie... have never run into a phamtom doctor, that is strange.

Hopefully you get it all straightened out.. but the big picture is that school is almost done.

Take care,

Tim

This is the time of year when new residencies start. Those Dr.s who graduated from med school in June have now made it to their new home where they will be learning a specialty for the next 3 to 5 yrs so this guy probably just got his liscense to practice in Florida and all the information has not gotten distributed to the right computers. I'll bet they didn't look for his DEA number in a national registry-just in Florida-cause I bet he is regitered in the state where he graduated from med school. Did the pharmacy keep the supposedly "bogus" prescription or give it back to you? If you get in touch with the Dr on Monday he should be able to call the pharmacy and clear up the problem in time for you to get your meds by Tuesday.Good Luck

Go to this internet site and lookup the doctor's name under licenses-physicians.........if it is not listed than there is a problem.

Hello Erie,

I think that Kewanee is on to something. Even though time is an issue, most hospitals have fast track clinics where people with broken fingers and toes go and get seen very soon, where I'm sure they would send you, since you're problem is nnnot complicated.

I feel for you, and I know what that situation of getting close to running out of pain med at very bad times feels like. I wish you the very best luck.

Good god, Erie, that's just downright whacky. Everyone else has made some very good suggestions. I hope you can track this guy down.

Also, I'd take Ben up on his offer to growl at them for you. I have a feeling he growls pretty darned well.

As for your defense on Wednesday, you are going to rock ... with or without meds. You know your stuff, you've been working your butt off and darnit, nothing is going to stop a KAer in full swing.

Many hugs (and please let us know what happens with the doc),

Kat
