the msn group chat is free. a room was set up for free last summer. several people chatted on it ... i'm sure another one could be set up with minimal effort.

The chatroom we had at the "old" new forum was set up by a KA member (Jezebel) that had connections with the chat provider. The room was a room set up only for KA members and had a password to enter as we'd had some non-ASers enter and cause problems. The chatroom worked well but rarely was used except when something was organized. I think the room is still setup but I don't have the link anymore since the "old" new forum disappeared and the link was on that KA site banner.... maybe admin could look into the link again from the old site and see if the room still works...and then add it to this site again. I, and I'm sure others including admin, know the password to get in... this password was never posted on our site but always passed by PM's from admin/mod to anyone that wanted it, this stopped non-KAer's getting in and causing strife.

Due to the lack of use of the chatroom, I believe the spending of extra monies not to be worth it... a link to the old one or another free one would be the best way to go... and then maybe a scheduled once or twice a week time for a chat would at least see the room get used more.

the chatroom connected to the old forum was fraught with problems for those of us that tried chatting on it. people from outside regularly showed up. the major problem, as several people wrote in the technical support forum was that a ton of spyware would get added to your computer. it was not a good chat format.

the msn group chat, on the other hand, worked well ... everyone who wanted to chat needed to be approved, so that no one from outside was allowed in the chat room. it was incredibly easy to set up ... and didn't cost a thing. the only thing was that we didn't have support at this website. so, perhaps the admin. might want to consider going this route.

I chatted there often... so count me as one of "those of us" that used it... Never had a problem at all with that chatroom... but maybe you did... forget I ever posted that it was good then... I was basically filling the bits about the old one, which I found to work quite well... feel free to find a place that works then ... thanks for the info...

Hi Mike,

I never had issues with the chat room either... but then again only chatted there a handful of times.

Tim,

I will pick on you, a little , because I know what system you had then.

That chat was created for Windows 95, 98 and early Windows 2000. As the internet grew, so did those not so honest people. When I signed on in 2003, I got so many pop-ups and inappropriate contacts from that site, I had to reformat my PC...then W2K.

We can not go back to this site and provide a safe chat site for our members. We will have to look at new ways to accomplish chatting.

I still think the MSN solution is plausible but we need to find out who created the MSN chat, so that we can make it easier for KA chatters. If you know who created the MSN site, please PM me.

We CAN make this work!
Holly

I can offer a free conference room - full voice/text/video for the non shy and webpage display - great for holding conferences in and just chatting.... We're using one for our Spinal Muscular Atrophy Australia site as a community room and its simple to use and everyone loves it! I'll just need to set it up and organise it so we can all download it from this site. Let me know and it shall happen!

Just to add to this: this software is completely harmless, can be password protected if need be , works well on dialup ( it works on my brothers poor dialup connection ) and can be fully moderated if needed!

We all get dealt a bad hand now and then.
It's how we play it that's important!
