Hi all,
I was in Istanbul early this year and had a great time discovering this city it's people, it's food and all architectural momuments that have piled up through the ages. One thing however I thought I had to share with you all. I thought for a moment I maybe could make a banner out of it but that didn't work out fine. Anyway for those interested it is a mosaic out of the Roman period of Istanbul about 400 A.D. See attachment

Hi Gerard,... that is so cool!

What a beautiful piece, and yep, it would be hard for us not to feel a certain connection to this gorgeous artwork. Good find!

Someday, I hope I'll have the opportunity to travel to some far off exotic place too. How exciting to go travelling about!

Thanks for sharing your unique discovery!

Hello Gerard

ik probeer te denken maar er qebeurd niets. the picture looks great. It sounds like a great time traveling to Istanbul. I am running again, the farthest I have run is 6 miles. I am slower than I was a year and a half ago, but I am glad to be able to run again.

Hi Gerard. That's a great picture..
Did you make it to the baths? Don't know if I'd be able to handle them walking on my back again : )

Cheers,

Timo

Hi Mig,
Though it is indeed pretty exotic and exiting, for Europeans Istanbul isn't very far and it is very cheap to travel too. They have problems with attracting enough tourists especially after the bombing in 2003. For Americans and Canadians it is a another thing of course. Also not so nice is that Americans (maybe canadians too) have to pay for a visum. Once inside the people are very friendly, but the difference in life standard tends to give its own specific little challenges.

Hi Steve,
Goede poging, volgende keer beter. Good to hear you're running again but be careful of course not to overdo things. My running is not very consistent but Im now in a period of regular running again. I hope to do the half marathon in spring again and maybe the marathon of Rotterdam some weeks later. I'm a bit afraid however that a complete marathon will be a bit too far for me, there is not much point in overdoing things myself.

Timo,
Yep I made it to the baths and also made it out of them. I've been two times in the Cemberlitas Hamam near Divan Yolu built in 1584. I did the bath with the massage included. Oh man, talking about living dangerously: How do you explain to a tough looking guy who doesn't speak a word English that he can't do to you what one of his colleagues is doing to your neighbour: placing one arm in the neck and then fold the head until the ear touches the shoulder blade for instance. Fortunately I could point this out and shake no no. Apparently I did succeed: he was gentler with me though it was still a turkish massage quite rough and quite an adventure but I felt good afterwards. Did you have your bath experience when already having AS?

I only know a couple of Dutch phrases the other is "muis met kaas op een stokje". I had to have the guy I work with tranlate your reply, but now I know three dutch phrases. A few years ago when I was in Rotterdam, I was there when they had the marathon. Novell had a marathon team that ran the race. I think they each ran a 6 mile segment.
