Hi Mig

LOL - you made me laugh
Thanks for your caring Mig. I may take you up the offer later. For now I am taking a break from these rheumy people. I'll go with my GP and see how we manage.
If this rib business dosn't soon improve, I know I'm going to push for her to investigate it further for me.
If I get into difficulties and heaven forbid, if things worsen - I'll maybe contact you.

Thanks for making me laugh and for caring so much Mig

Hey Maggie,

I think you may be right about him being upset because you switched doctors with them being so close toghether, but the nurse is right it is your choice to see whom ever you want to see. I did something similar when we first moved back to NC from CA.

When we first moved back to NC I went to a doctor in a town about 20 miles from where I live. I had a stomach virus and found a doctor taking new patients so I set my appointment with him for the same afternoon. He gave me some meds and sent me to the hospital to have some test ran. The meds didn't work so I went back two days later. He gave me more meds to take and sent me for more test. After a week it finally cleared up when my neighbor told me to go get some Dramomine and take it. His sister was a nurse in the ER and when he got the virus he called her. She told him Dramomine was the only thing they had found at the hospital that was working on the virus. Anyway I continued seeing the doctor for about eight months when I needed. I had a huge flare and went in for something for pain and he told me he did not prescribe pain meds, so I needed to take OTC pain relievers. I asked him if he had reviewed my records and he said he had but he was not prescribing me any narcotics. He did want me to go have x-rays and blood work done. I told him that would be ok, as I did not need any test ran, because he was no longer my doctor.

I went by the ER on the way home getting two shots and prescriptions for muscle relaxers and pain meds. I called another doctor's office (9 miles from my house) and they gave me an appointment for a few days later and wanted to know the doctor I last saw so they could get my records from him. When I got there the doctor asked me why I switched. I gave him my medical history telling him I usually only come in during an AS flare or when my back was killing me for pain meds, prednisone and muscle relaxers. He asked if I was aware the previous doctor was part of their group practice I answered no I did not know or I would have gone somewhere else. The second doctor had the same basic personality as the first. He said he could write me the prednisone and muscle relaxers but not any narcotics. Besides not listening both doctor were rather rude.

When I got home I went thru the phonebook again, only to find a doctor I had seen before moving to Ca. He had moved his practice and was in a partnership. When I got there to see him I found he was his same old self. He told me if I needed to see him and he was not in to see the doctor in the office next door as they had formed a partnership. Most of the time I could just call his office to tell him what was going on and he would call in most of my meds and the narcotics all I had to d was to go to the office and pick up the prescription slips. So your not a lone if you made a doctor upset.

Hi Possi

The reaction you got from the second Dr is what I was expecting but I was wrong.
Trouble is that now I start to think maybe it is me who has the wrong approach or something. Yesterdays grief started before I even opened my mouth though.
I just don't know. I feel better today and am determined not to let myself get too upset about it. I'll stay calm and keep on plodding on.

Thanks for caring Possi

Oh Tim

You silly goose. My name is Newby.
Boy, if he was using it in reference to me being new - now THAT would have been truly ignorant.

Your right Tim. There are so many answers right here .

Thanks Tim

I've had EXACTLY the same experience as you, earlier on this year, so I know just how you feel. It just amazes me how some rheumatologists behave towards their patients. Rightly or wrongly, I cant help feeling that if you were male, your consultation might have gone a different way...............?

AS may be hard to diagnose, but with your past history, it shouldnt be too hard! Obviously our rheumatologists must have trained together !!

Hi Sadie

I really don't care if they call it AS or whatever. It's just that to ignore all the symptoms grouped together and especially to tell me nothing is wrong - I am flabbergasted.

Sorry you have the same troubles. Like we don't have enough to worry about - they make us doubt ourselves and drive us round the bend

Thanks Sadie

Hi Ben

I thought the fix was in too. I suppose nothing is ever easy right ?
An action plan is pretty hard to form when you are told nothing is wrong LOL

Thanks for your kindness Ben

Hi Steve

You know what ? Maybe that could be my problem. I'm so busy trying to be polite and not pushy when I'm at these rheumy appointments. I probably have it all wrong.
Next time - I'll look for the skeleton
( I'll certainly smile to myself when I see it now anyway )

Thanks Steve - you've given me a slightly different perspective.

Maggie
