OK... all the English out there... Monty Python is one of my favorite movies. One of my favorite scenes is that with the witch, but I never understood what she said when she was on the scale (was discussing movie with Holly last night and she also questioned).

So can someone help me out... what does "It's a fair cop" mean?

CROWD:
Ohh! Ohh! Burn the witch! Burn the witch! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Ahh! Ahh...

BEDEVERE:
Right. Remove the supports!
[whop]
[clunk]
[creak]

CROWD:
A witch! A witch! A witch!

WITCH:
It's a fair cop.

VILLAGER #3:
Burn her!

Any other Grail fans out there and favorite lines? I love... "she turned me into a Newt"

Tim

Hope is only a post away with KickAS.

Tim, it means something along the lines of "fair enough, you got me" derived from when a criminal is caught by a police officer.

here's a couple of googled definitions:

something you say when someone has caught you doing something wrong and you agree that you were wrong

"It's a Fair Cop"-- Phrase used by criminals to indicated that they were fairly caught in the act

Their use of the phrase it's a fair cop guv is really a reference to another old British TV series called Dixon of Dock Green. Dixon was a 'friendly local bobby' and the people he nicked were 'likeable rogues but true gents' who didn't put up a fight but said ... it's a pi$$take.

And what's he then that says I play the villain
When this advice is free I give and honest

'Then you should say what you mean,' the March Hare went on. 'I do,' Alice hastily replied; 'at least - at least I mean what I say - that's the same thing , you know.' 'Not the same thing a bit!' said the Hatter.

Mike, John Cleese is definitely one of my all time favorites. I absolutely loved him in Fawlty Towers, which incidentally was filmed in walking distance from my house growing up (not in Torquay where it was set).

Basil Fawlty: START. Start, you vicious ######. Oh my God. I'm warning you, if you don't start... I'll count to three. 1, 2, 3, right, that does it.

Basil Fawlty: I'm going to give you a damn good thrashing.

My favourite has to be in Jabberwocky when this guy with incredibly bad teeth describes someone's encounter with the fearsome Jabberwocky.

"...he claimed he'd seen it. Turned his teeth snow white overnight, they say."

Everything about Monty Python is funny...but how can we --especially us--forget about The Ministry of Silly Walks?? "Hmmm, yes...that's not rheally veddy silly now, is it?"
