I found this googling James Joyce and wonder if he had AS too:

1910: JAJ returns to Trieste, bringing sis. Eileen, 2 Jan. 1910; a drinking bout on 10 Jan. results in arthritis in one arm and an atrophied deltoid muscle (as recorded in notes of Dr. Victor Morax in 1922, based on Joyce’s explanation of his chronic iritis)
