If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I believe that this is common with ASers. This happened to me too. Doc put me on Actonel......one pill per week. Extra Vitamin D and Calcium.
Studies show good results when it is caught early.
Best wishes.

Hi Maggie, I flunked as well three years ago. The strange thing when I had it done this year my spine had an increase of 8% bone density, but it was actually the fusion taking place, my hip had lost 2 %. I am going to be starting an IV drip for this once a month. I couldn't tolerate the oral routes and I guess this also is show\ing promise for decreasing A/S pine in the spine.
Good Luck P>S I get to decrease my drops by 1 drop a week now so 5 in left and 3 in the right.Still using the glaucoma drop to keep the pressure down in my eyes.

HI...
When you said that you could not tolerate the med......what were the issue. I hate taking the med and than having to wait in the AM to eat. Also, can not lay down after taking the med for 30 minutes. What did you find to be the issues?

Hi Maggie, Irecently found out I had low bone density(moderate bone loss) from my b.d. exam. My rheumatologist wanted to put me on Didrocal to build the bone. In Edmonton, Alberta Canada researchers just did a study in which they used IV Didrocal and it relieved pain in AS patients. This is primarily why she wanted to start me on it. however,I have learned that exercixe -weight bearing- walking, weights etc. will build bone mass as well as 1500 mg Calcium supplement and 800 mg. Vit. D. daily. For me, I have chosen not to do the drug as in women of child bearing age the drug sticks to your bones and theoretically can leak during preganancy and harm the fetus. You never know I may one day get pregnant? So, I am going to re-scan in one year. A friend of mine who was on bone building drugs was unable to tolerate the drug due to sever nausea. Hopefully this will not be the case for you. Take care Rene

Hi Maggie, Sorry to hear the bad news. I take a calcium supplement daily with magnesium... also take a Vitamin D supplement. I eat plenty of yogurt with live cultures... I believe this calcium is better absorbed due to the live cultures (friendly bacteria). I also eat lots of green leafy veggies, I believe this calcium is better absorbed as well (in comparison to cow dairy). I think Dragonslayer recommends almonds for calcium if I recall his posts correctly. Calcium has been discussed several times in past year in the Diet forum if you want to search on it. I also pull for the Senators... not that this has anything to do with calcium, but just thought might make you feel better Take care, Tim Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
AS may win some battles, but I will win the war.

Thanks Betty
I'll see on Wednesday what the doc has to say. If she puts me on meds or supplements, I'll maybe ask if it's the same as any of you take and how you tolerate it.
