If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

This may be on the board somewhere but I can't find it.
How much starch can you consume to keep it a LSD? I am having problems losing too much weight on the NSD right now so I am going Low Starch. Is there a certain amt. of grams I must stay within or does it just vary for each individual?
Thanks for your help! Cristina

Hi, Cristina: The basic guidelines are Ebringer's London AS Diet: https://www.kickas.org/londondiet.shtml, but the basic idea is to stay out of flare and since we know most of the things that contain too much starch, it is easy to eat around them. I can gain weight with no problem on this regimen, and the best thing to do is not skip dessert; food combining that is as much contrary to Atkin's plan as we can and remain LSD or near-NSD is good. The combination of starches and proteins is dangerous for ASers, but sugar and fats/proteins is the way to maintain weight; we have to have some reserves built up to fight this monster--it can be a delicate balance. Let us know how you are doing! John

It probably has to do with the condition of the gut and also how much starch you have floating in your system. I'm finding that I can do a couple of grams a day without any problems. Also may have to do with the kinda starch your ingesting. Some, like wheat are more potent then others. Bilko posted the worst starches awhile back, but I don't remember what all they were. Seems like wheat is the worse though. You might try eating more meals a day of good stuff. I went from 220 to 170 before I settled in. I had to start eating 3 times a day instead of two even though I wasn't hungry. Tim posted about ice cream that didn't cause any problems for him. Dryers or Bryers, I can't remember which. It has like 15 carbs and 14 sugar or something like that, but the ingedients are all natural and good. I bought some and didn't have any problem either. I bought the chocolate and it was barely above the french vanilla. I don't know if you have problems with milk or sugar so it might be a trial and error for you. Happy hunting, Allan

Hi Cristina,
I figured that may be an issue with you... already a slendor gal without much to lose in weight. I have had the same issues off and on with the diet... not much to lose on my frame either.
Over time my body has slowly seemed to adjust to the diet. My first weeks on the diet over year and half ago, I felt like I would faint by the end of the afternoon. My energy was lacking... so had to start juicing carrots quite a bit to combat. But I think all the Vitamin A in the carrots eventually played with my already toxic liver (reason I started diet.... dumped off meds due to liver). High in Vitamin A which in excess can cause issues.
I did the juicing for 4-5 months... this helped sustain my energy and my weight.... but my liver enzymes started to break the 90/50 marks and had to stop. So September 2002, I commenced LSD with brown rice each morning. Still med free, the occasional brown rice (4-5 days a week) got me my energy to decent level and I maintained the weight... but had to supplement for the pain... if I went on a business trip, reverted back to the azulfadine that week, so that would clear out system.... but eventually the repeated starch got to me and pain was getting to 3-4.
So I reverted back to NSD in mid/late December and surprisingly energy did OK. However, was slowly losing weight.... by May I had dropped from low 200's to 192... and I started to feel weak. So had to revert back to LSD... this is when I noticed I had healed some more, eating rice daily did not effect me as much as the previous fall and I used less supplements (small slice of ginger and none of the Naturopaths supplements).
Now a couple months later am back on NSD and sustaining my weight.
So I have healed slowly on the inside from a leaky gut standpoint, detoxing and also with assimilation of vitamins/minerals and so forth. I have come a long way.
So like myself... you may not be able to follow NSD right off... but I eventually got there, hopefully you can as well if that is what you want.
Hope it works out for you... of course can always post with questions or PM me.
Take care,
Tim

John, Allen and Tim,
Thank you for your responses. John, I knew the information was somewhere but I have yet to read the London AS Diet. That is top priority now.
You have all given me good ideas. Thank you!

Oh Christina, you need to discover Ghiradelli's Bittersweet Chocolate Baking Bars. Being female, you are probably conditioned to think "low fat". No more. Start thinking "slow burning, sustaining fuel" as you eat something outrageously sweet and high fat and you'll get the idea. Use sugars for the quick energy burst ( some juice, or a handfull of raisins and a glass of water) but then eat something fattening on top of it like a handfull of the good nuts like almonds or walnuts to give you a little between meal boost. Eat some fat at each meal, like eggs, or butter, or olive oil, or real mayonaise on your vegetables, and that should also help.

Cristina (hey you... how you doin'???) I have to wonder what you are eating on the NSD to make you lose weight. The optimum is that you introduce more nutritious (and starch free) foods to your diet (i.e. more protein) so you really shouldn't lose weight. I can honestly say that I have not lost any weight on the NSD. I am losing weight now though, as I feel well enough, and I am not having any problems in resuming my work-out schedule. Since I started working out, I've lost 8lbs.... but it's all those nasty fat parts that you wanted to get rid of anyhow! I havn't had time to read the other posts.... I just logged on for a sec... but keep up the good work... you will soon start to feel real good... honest! Well, wheat means ... bread, cake, pasta, cereals, cookies ... just add spuds to the no no list and that is the London AS diet!
They wear ''their brains in their bellies, and their guts in their heads,'' as Agrippa taxed some parasites of his time, rushing on their own destruction, as if a man should run upon the point of a sword, they eat till they burst ...
'Then you should say what you mean,' the March Hare went on. 'I do,' Alice hastily replied; 'at least - at least I mean what I say - that's the same thing , you know.' 'Not the same thing a bit!' said the Hatter.

Hi Cristina,
I've been doing the Atkins diet since March 8th this year. I wasn't really "fat", but I was toting around an extra 20 or so pounds that I thought it would be nice to lose. So, here it is mid July and I've lost 37 pounds (much more than I'd hoped to). I was 217 when I started and I'm now 180lbs. Anyway, to get to the point, the no starch diet closely resembles Atkins. The big difference, I guess, is that on Atkins, a person cannot have sugars either. When I started Atkins, my AS was bad. I did not notice any improvement by getting rid of carbs. I've never actually counted my grams of starches - I;ve just entirely avoided them. People ask me "How can you do it?" My answer to them is, how can I not! I'm such a carnivore that if I have to suffer through doing without a baked potato by eating another six pork chops, than why not! PS- When is that party at my house being held?
Stay well, Michael
