Jumping off a cliff was what it felt like at first. I knew I would homeschool my LD daughter. My husband wasn't altogether convinced, but he agreed to go to a conference with me. The keynote speaker was Patrick Farenga. On the way home Roger asked, "When are we going to start?" We discussed it for a week, put the legal wheels in motion, and took the boys out of school 2 weeks later. I've never looked back.

I recommend learning all you can about homeschooling. Find out what your state's policies and regulations are regarding home education. Attend a conference, if you can. Learn all you can. Join a support group. They often have play groups, field trips, workshops, co-operative classes, and curriculum sales/swaps.

"Homeschool" is not neccessarily "school-at-home." Attending a school doesn't mean you are getting an education. Your children started their education before they were born. Remember the wonder in their eyes when they discovered their hands? That's education. Walking, talking, potty-training, using a spoon, blowing your nose, tying shoes, sharing toys......parents are good teachers. Learning to read is no different. Can you tell I'm enthusiastic about homeschooling?

Good luck.

Cindy
