I have Crohns and AS. I avoid pharmaceuticals and doctors as much as possible. So Im into supplements and believe the Coimbra protocol does work however it needs monitoring and strict diet avoiding calcium and plenty of water to avoid Kidney issues.
I went 28 years after my first resection surgery and for years I did have back aches and some stiffness during those years which were mild until near the end when I was popping Ibuprofen at night to sleep. So the result of the excess ibuprofen was a blockage in my gut. It was in the hospital 3 times for a blockage and the last ended in another surgery another 2 feet of intestine removed. The ibuprofen definitely caused leaky gut and my crohns to come back. Then I started my search for what supplements to take etc.
Later on I came across Coimbra's work and it made sense so I started taking higher dosages of D plus especially after finding out I had low D levels and found out thats a cause of many autoimmune diseases and other illnesses.
I also had low B12 and found out that I could not absorb the fat soluble vitamins then found out I needed to take sublingual. So today I take sublingual D3, K2, A, B12, folate, along with restarting my b12 monthly injections..
So I had I high D level 87, 110, but I could not figure out why the D didn't seem to help me much.
Using AI, Grok I started asking questions and found out my D resistance was from low Zinc.. I never had it tested, it necessary for D to work along with magnesium glycinate and K2. Certain tests are needed to monitor if D is being utilized. PTH test. I had 45 which is high and with a 120 D level is should be in the low 20.s. After start 120mg of zinc for a week it went down to 40, my zinc level was at 66, thats low end, then I took 90mg zinc for a week and not on 60mg. getting ready to get more blood work soon.. Hoping the PTH level has dropped another 10 points.
I will also get the CRP, Calcium, Zinc, D, PTH.. However My AS is still an issue, I do notice the pain and stiffness is gradually dropping which makes sense. It does take some time to get the body back in order to fight the inflammation.
Now I dont take Nsaids for have been to a rhuematologist yet, but I am going to make an appointment and have some recent MRI.s and CT scans examined for my AS to see how bad my disease has progressed. I DO NOT want to take Biologics, thats why Im hoping the high D will do its job to quell the inflammation, I dont think it will cure it..
