Apologies for the length, I started the NSD diet last Easter and for the first two weeks felt fabulous all lower back pain si pain gone and it has not come back. However my uveitis did 2/3 weeks in  probably because I was feeling so much better I wavered slightly slice of bread, fish and chips and was also still eating some foods I hadn’t realised were starchy. I was also still eating dairy.
So I have been NSD most of the time and limiting dairy while drinking Chardonnay if I think I have inadvertently had some starch (any excuse).
Thus far I have been uveitis free until now 9 months later again maybe down to too much chocolate, stress, sugar. However after the first two weeks of feeling great other pains started to seep in mainly around my chest: a pain when I breathe below bust level and around the chest and also my feet but not the soles at the sides. My neck is also stiff and I hadn’t realised my movement was slightly restricted (more in the mornings) until the physio took measurements.
These pains come and go (probably related to how good I am keeping the dairy and sugar out for one) my feet are particularly bad at the moment and the pain has spread to the soles.
I saw a podiatrist today who said it was plantar fasciitis and high arches which were also contributing.
I have cut out dairy most of the time and am trying to limit sugar using honey in baking coconut flour/almond flour and trying not to eat chocolate not having realised cocoa is starchy.
My problem is I am really good eating only safe foods and then when I start to feel better I don’t just add one thing I go the whole hog ooh! chocolate and cream etc. I have now bought a page a day diary and am planning to keep a record of everything in the hope it will make me stricter and be able to nail the problem foods. I don’t think I have the willpower to fast with a family to look after and feed.
I want to try the gut healing approach but am thinking of trying the Gaps diet rather than antibiotics .
1. I am wondering if these other pains are due to something I am missing in the diet vitamins etc. or something I haven’t yet realised I react to. Or I am not eating enough fat, my weight has stabilised after the initial rapid weight loss when I cut out the starch. I suspect it is all AS related  but thought I would ask.
I am also considering trying the GAPs diet in the hope I will be able to stick at it as there is a strict plan to follow and it is the wrong time of year here to eat raw celery, cucumber etc. brrr. Warm broth though sounding like hard work sounds much more appealing.
2. I don’t have any obvious bowel problems so am wondering if any of you who have done/are doing the GAPs diet how long you would do the introductory diet for and do you use the probiotics Bio-Kult suggested on the Gaps site?

My rheumatologist suggests the next stage is to go on medication other than NSAIDS which I am trying to limit to occasional use so I know what is going on with my body. The type hasn’t been discussed so presumably it would be the first one on the ladder. I want to avoid this and have agreed that if my measurements get worse (they had improved on my second visit though I had been up longer) I would reconsider. I want to try and be extra good so that when I next go I am no worse.
