I feel so very sad for you,
For having married me.
The things you can no longer do,
Things you did when you were free.
If you had known what you now know,
Would your answer be the same?
Would you have wanted love to grow,
Would you still want my name?
I am not the man you married,
I’m a man who lives in pain.
He, who once, great burdens, carried,
Is now crippled, bent and lame.
I hope that I will find a way,
To show how much you mean to me.
The little things you do each day,
Things you don’t think I will see.
When all was dark and I lost hope,
I could hear you call my name.
You showed me I could learn to cope
You eased my burdens and my pain.
You sacrificed your dreams for me;
That’s a debt that can’t be paid.
I’ll try to make it up to you,
Until, in the ground, I’m laid.
