Sorry your in such pain. Your Doctor if he refuses to hear you about how much pain you are in is an idiot. That is being kind. If he refuses to even refer you to a rheumy just to check out the possibility of better treatment of med's then he is a dangerous idiot.
I like you can't remember what it is like not to be in pain. I will be like this always, such is my AS. I, if I were you, knowing how the pain affects me would still find a way to commute to another Doctor. The trip may hurt but its better than every day facing pain with no hope of better medical aid.
Maybe you could find the DOc's around you and make some calls or before going and see if they know anything about AS or who the most likely DOc in the area is to truly heop you. You don't want to waste a trip if the new guy isn't informed either but be proactivie and do something other than wait for your current fool Doc to smarten up.
