I don't agree. The gut flora is very diverse and all bacteria have there own specialities and substrates they most like to grow on. The ones that feast on fiber don't care much for starch. And if they can feed on it they won't get it cause other bacteria are way better in getting it. So for those bacteria there is always substrate to grow on
