Welcome Nicki, sorry to hear your son has a neck problem. As the genetic marker HLA B27 shows a vulnerability to developing AS the test may be worthwhile for your son and yourself. I have nephews and nieces who also carry the marker, but no problems among my siblings.There probably needs to be a major enteric trauma in the past to initiate AS development - usually gastro-enteritis or surgery - appendicitis or similar - and having the marker is NOT a guarantee of getting AS.
I get about 90-95% relief from symptoms by a medication-free strict NSD diet - see the forum where many have success - and it would be 99% relief if i could do absolutely everything right..... including 30 minutes exercise everyday and less time at the keyboard.
The neck is a lingering and slowly degenerating concern for me, but twenty years of AS have made it so.
Soak up the ideas here on slowing everything down...
