Yeah, he's twice as long as the one I caught a few months back. We've got a couple of six footers hanging around and they don't bother me but I wouldn't let Godzilla there stay in my yard! And they can out run most humans on land too! On my birthday we went down to Holly Beach (when I saw the pink dolphin) and I asked a newbie to Louisiana if she wanted to come along and she was so shocked at how many alligators we saw, I guess we're just used to them.

Too funny Molly, if the raccoons ever got that big, you'd definitely have a problem on your hands!

Hi Maggie and thank you, I wish I could say for sure that this was the last time and that it won't happen again but in all reality, it probably will.....for the first time in my life I'm considering leaving Louisiana.....that's a scary thought though, I've been here all of my life.

I didn't make the Look & Leave yesterday because I got caught up in cleaning here and by the time I realised it, curfew was too close and if you get caught off of your property after curfew, you go straight to jail. I'm so glad that it worked out that way though because there was a big to-do over there, evidently a cable broke on the pontoon bridge that leads into the area and they couldn't lower the bridge to let anyone in...well people were lined up for miles anxious to get in and see their homes and businesses and they were very upset that they couldn't get in, I understand why they're upset but I'm glad I wasn't there.

This article does a good job of explaining the problems with evacuations in the Houston area, it's also packed with interesting hurricane facts regarding deaths and wind intensity, as well as damage cost estimates and hurricane ratings....it recorded the winds of Rita at 180 mph in Creole. It also discusses hurricane Audrey, all of us grew up on the stories from hurricane Audrey and most of us had a relative that died in Audrey, an interesting fact about Rita, a couple of coffins that were unearthed during hurricane Audrey were never recovered as they were dragged out into the Gulf of Mexico when the storm surge went back out, they were found onshore after hurricane Rita's storm surge went back out. The families of these poor souls were so happy that their loved ones were returned to them.

A few minutes ago I took the dogs out and when I opened the door, I found a neat little basket filled with cleaning supplies, protective gloves, sanitizing soap, sponges and even some bottled water, when I looked down the street, I saw that there's one on every doorstep...it was probably the Urseline nuns from down the street....what a fantastic idea and so thoughtful!

That link was pretty cool Michelle. Thanks.

And that was an awesome gesture with the little basket. How cool is that.

I thought it was a great little pick-me up for the neighborhood...it's very laboring, tedious and lenghty to clean up after this and it seems like you'll never get done, that felt like a soft little nudge in the right direction, a little encouragement....it comes in the strangest little tid-bits during a mass catastrophe and those are the moments you hang on to, they'll carry you through. Well, I'm back to work, I'm shoveling mud out of the shop/kennel area so I can wash it all out of there and clean it up...this mud stinks! I can only do a small section at a time because the water takes forever to go down because the ground is so saturated.

A friend of mine went to New Orleans to visit and went sightseeing at some local park with footbridges and paths around a swamp...which was filled with alligators! That just makes me laugh! I mean, it's a public park, and it's full of huge alligators! But yes, if you are used to it and know how to avoid them, I'm sure it's a little less shocking. When I was down there, I stayed in the city, so all I saw were drunk tourists. Still scary, but in a different way.

I can't even imagine cleaning up after something like that. I'm sure it takes forever, or at least seems like it.
Have fun shoveling mud! I can't imagine having to clean up all that mess!
Happy shoveling....
